A Poor Man Sold for Shoes – Rav Berland Shlita’s Visit to Mitzpe Yosef

For the occasion of parashat Vayeshev which speaks about the selling of Yosef HaTzaddik, on the morning of 17 Kislev, our Rebbe Rav Eliezer Berland shlit”a came to pray the morning prayer at Mitzpe Yosef, which is located on Mount Gerizim (also known as Har Bracha – the Mountain of Blessing), opposite the grave of Yosef HaTzaddik in the city of Shechem.

The Rav shlit”a arrived at the location in the early morning hours after a silent prayer opposite the grave of Yosef HaTzaddik.  He began the Shacharit prayer full of excitement, weeping, and awesome vitality.  The Rav’s assistants relate that this was a unique prayer of its kind for it incredible excitement and vitality.

After the Shacharit prayer, the Rav shlit”a remarked how we have returned here over 3,000 years after the Jewish people stood on Mount Gerizim and Mount Ebal and accepted the commandments of the Torah.  Likewise, the Rav shlit”a spoke about the level of Har Bracha, that there all of the blessings and salvation are in the merit of Yosef HaTzaddik, who is buried at the bottom of the mountain in the city of Shechem.
