Pappus and Rabbi Akiva were killed al kiddush Hashem  – to sanctify Hashem’s name.

For the ikker (main point) is to be killed al kiddush Hashem, in the generation of shmad (destruction).

Now, the three weeks are going to begin, in another little while, on the 17th of Tammuz the three weeks are going to start. Because the ikker is to die al Kiddush Hashem. This is the purpose, this is the highest thing.

What they are doing to Shuvu Banim is like dying al Kiddush Hashem.

All the slander and the signing up of more Rabbanim – now, I spoke with my daughter. They want to go to Rav Chaim Kanievsky, and they want to go to the Rebbe of Gur. There is a person here who transgresses the entire Torah, every second.

My daughter is a regular person, who prays days and night, so why does she need to receive bizyonot (disgrace)?

She has a father, that they say that he’s meshugga (crazy), that he transgresses the Torah, what, and according to their shita (understanding), they are right.

This is the whole problem, that they have all these rabbanim, according to their shita.

So, they are going to try to convince the Rebbe of Gur now, and the Rebbe of Belz, and the Rebbe of Karlin. We spoke about Rabbi Avraham Elimelech of Karlin, who used to cry out, [so loudly] that they would hear his cries even in Tzfat.


One of the grandchildren told the Rav (i.e. Rav Berland):

This isn’t supposed to even interest us at all. We are with the Torah, what do we care what will be, if we will have bizyonot. We will merit to have bizyonot! We need to do what we need to do!

The Rav responded:

We don’t need to pick up pashkivilim (the slanderous leaflets typically left in piles on the floor of the streets of Meah Shearim, and other religious neighborhoods in Israel). Let them do what they want. We don’t need to gather them up, we don’t need to take them from the road, or to rip them off the walls.

No need, no need. This isn’t relevant to us at all.

Rabbi Akiva and Pappus died al Kiddush Hashem, because the essential thing is to die al Kiddush Hashem. The whole ikker  is to think about how am I going to die al kiddush Hashem, every single second.

Being disgraced is like living al Kiddush Hashem. Accepting bizyonot is living al Kiddush Hashem, this is harder than dying [al Kiddush Hashem]…..

  1. It is proper to recite (except on Shabbos and Yom Tov) the passages of the olah offering for the rav shlita (Vayikra ch. 1, beginning of ch. 6.). A small petition before and after the recitation should be said, that the recitation should be for the rav shlita. This has to be done only from dawn until before nightfall. One should also study the lesson in Likkutei Moharan II:12. It is proper to recite Tikkun HaKlali before the olah.
