Purim Katan 5779: Everything will turn around
Monday, February 18, 2019 found Rav Eliezer Berland, shlita, returning to Israel’s southern-most city of Eilat, which is fast becoming known as the ‘city of teshuva’.
The Rav spent a full 48 hours in Eilat, and every second was filled with avodat Hashem. Tuesday morning at the break of dawn, the Rav and hundreds of his followers prayed the morning service just behind the separate beach at the North end of Eilat, facing Jordan the Red Sea.
After Shacharit, the Rav then read Megillat Esther, before returning to the home of Rav David Eliakim on Nevatim Street, where he ate the Purim seuda.
The Rav also gave a number of shiurim (Torah classes) during his stay, and made a number of house visits, where he met with hundreds of his growing band of followers in Eilat, before returning to Jerusalem to celebrate Shushan Purim Katan in Jerusalem.
In one of the classes he gave in Eilat on Purim Katan, the Rav explained:
“Purim is the secret of techiyat hameitim, the revival of the dead. According to Rabbi Eliezer and Rabbi Yossi, we shouldn’t postpone the mitzvah of the first Purim. Fast forward! When Adar enter, simcha, happiness, is increased.
“When Adar Aleph begins, we are obliged to read the megillah! It’s assur, forbidden, to wait until Adar Bet. Today, this is really Purim, mamash!
“This is really:
“וְנַהֲפוֹךְ הוּא אֲשֶׁר יִשְׁלְטוּ הַיְּהוּדִים הֵמָּה בְּשֹׂנְאֵיהֶם” (אסתר ט א)
“Ve ne’hafoch hu – everything will be turned around! In these moments, everything will mamash be turned around. The Intifada will stop, everything will stop, all the harsh decrees that there are on the Jews, and especially on the chareidim.
Everything will be cancelled out.
“Am Yisrael are already despairing of the geula.
They’re already marrying non-Jews, as we see happening today, when half the Knesset are married to non-Jews. This was exactly the situation at the time of Purim, 3000 years ago.”
Below, we’re happy to share some clips of the Rav’s latest visit to Eilat:
