THE MOLAD FOR CHODESH CHESHVAN – TO COMPLETE SEFER HAMITZVOT OF THE RAMBAM IN CHODESH CHESHVAN.
Rabbi Berland’s prayer for the new moon, or molad, of the month of Cheshvan, 5780.
Master of the world who can do anything, the Molad Cheshvan will be on Monday night, at 6.13 pm and 6 halakim (halachic parts of the hour), that alludes to the 613 mitzvot, that we have to perform. And the 6 halakim alludes to the 6 orders of the Mishnah.
And also, to the Torah, that it’s length and breadth and height and depth, together six kivunim (directions), from six ruchot (directions) equals the Tablets. The Tablets had a length of six [tefachot] and a width of six.
And may we merit to complete learning them in the month of Marcheshvan, which is (in Aramaic) split into two words, Marach-shvan, which means the 8th month, which represents the 8 days of mila (the brit), and in particular the eighth day on which we perform the brit milah.
“Lemenatzayach al ha sheminit” (Tehillim)
Which represents olam haba (the world to come), which is called Shemini.
And also represents the eight days of the brit, in particular the day of the brit itself, when the Kohen Gadol would dress in the choshen hamishpat, with the urim v’tumim.
The words ‘choshen al Har Hamor’ (i.e. the Temple Mount) – are the letters of Mar Heshvan.
And when the Kohen Gadol wears the choshen hamishpat with the urim v’tumim that are on it, and that include within them all 613 mitzvahs, and all the names of the tribes that shine and stand out all the time, anew.
Like when they asked whether they should go out to war with Shevat Binyamin, who attacked a kosher and righteous woman, that there was none like her in righteousness from the creation of the world (Pilgash b’Gevaa).
And on account of them attacking this woman, who was righteous, they destroyed a complete tribe, youths, women and children.
There only remained 600 men, who fled for their lives, and amongst them was Shaul, the chosen of Hashem, who never opened his eyes all his days, because he only learned Torah day and night – (177), learning all of the 613 mitzvahs that are alluded to in the Molad of Cheshvan.
And he didn’t open his eyes from the day of his birth to the day of his death, and he didn’t open his eyes in any fashion, for the matters of this world.
Therefore, help us, Master of the world, also to attach to the middot of the tzaddikim, and may we also merit to be the chosen ones of Hashem. And may we merit to learn Torah day and night, in the month of Marach-Shvan, and to go through all of the Rambam, Sefer HaMitzvot, which includes all of the 613 mitzvot, and to go through all of Sefer HaMiddot, and all of Likutey Moharan, and all of Likutey Halachot, and all of Sippurei HaMaasiot, and all of Likutey Etzot.
And to accept upon myself to learn the entire year, and especially in the month of Marach-Shvan, to learn every day 8 pages of Gemara, day and night (177).
And when we arrive at the hiloula of Rabbenu, at the yahtzeit of Rabbenu, with all of Shas and the holy Rambam, which is a total 8 pages of Gemara and 5 chapters of the Rambam, which is together 13, which is alluded to in the goblet that Yosef HaTzaddik hid in Binyamin’s sack, which is the secret of 13 times 72, which is the gematria of Mordechai and Esther, Matityahu and his sons.
And in the merit that they hid the goblet in Binyamin’s sack and in the merit of the bizayon disgrace that Binyamin received, that they whipped him between his shoulder blades, 39 lashes, Shaul was saved, who was head and shoulders above other people.
And therefore, Yosef wept on the shoulders of Binyamin, and Binyamin wept on the shoulders of Yosef. And it was all in order to save Shaul from the death blow of being lost and destroyed, that was decreed upon the Tribe of Binyamin.
