Shiur for Rabbanim of Breslov Information Line at Rav Berland’s Home

There’s no person who is a follower of our Rebbe Rav Eliezer Berland shlit”a who doesn’t know about the work of the Breslov Information Line (Kav HaMedah d’Hasidei Breslov) *9148.  The Kav (as it’s called shorthand) opened up nine years ago when the Rav shlit”a was in exile.  Since then, the Kav has become a central hotline for outreach for the light of the Rav shlit”a, together with reliable information at all times brought to tens of thousands of listeners (according to the data of the editorial staff).  From a standpoint of the information given on the Kav, the Information Line is also known as “Line of Information and Shiurim,” in the merit of almost ten daily shiurim.  A partial list: Daf Yomi Bavli, Daf Yomi in Likutey Moharan, Likutey Halachot, Chumash Rashi, Halachah, Daf Yomi in Mishnah Berurah by the Gaon Rav Yisrael Sharet shlit”a, Amud Yomi in Ketzot HaChoshen, and various other shiurim in all areas of Torah, including a special extension for kivrey Tzaddikim and yahrzeits.  This is besides the weekly shiurim in the weekly parashah and the rest of the areas of Torah.

The Rabbanim of the Kav merited to come to Rav Berland’s home last Monday, 7 Marcheshvan, for a special shiur by the Rav shlit”a.  The Rav spoke about parashat “Lech Lechah” and about the month of Marcheshvan, that it’s the month of the revival of the dead.  He also spoke about the next parashah – “Vayerah,” about the inner meaning of Sarah’s words, “’I did not laugh’ because she feared.”  The Rav shlit”a explained according to various commentators the depth of this, and in addition, that Sarah Emeinu cried about having to return to the evil inclination of desire, because a women needs to give birth to a child while at war with the evil inclination, because if a person doesn’t have an evil inclination, then this isn’t a person, it’s an angel.  About this she cried and said “I am afraid of this.”

The Rav also spoke about the importance of the mother in the home, that she delineates the path for the children to love Torah and Mitzvot through personal example.  He also spoke about the importance of guarding one’s eyes.  Below is a short excerpt:

“When a person overcomes his evil inclination, then the entire world overcomes [it].  Every time that a person closes his eyes, then all the world closes its eyes; the entire world is one thing.  A person closes his eyes, then seven billion people close their eyes.  A person walks outside, closes his eyes, seven billion people close their eyes.  Because the entire world knows that it’s forbidden to look!  Once, everyone [including non-Jews], would walk with veils… The entire world knows that it’s forbidden to bring children in impurity, it’s forbidden to bring children with the evil inclination, and that they have to sanctify themselves to bring a child – the entire world knows this.  But this is dependent only on us!  The moment that we close our eyes, [we] break the evil inclination.  We received ‘Behold, in iniquity I was fashioned, and in sin my mother conceived me’ (Tehilim 51:7), and we break this; then the whole world breaks this!  Because the entire world is one unit; it is one circle.”

After the shiur, which lasted for more than fifty minutes, the Talmid Chacham who is known by thousands of listeners of “Kav HaMedah” for the Daf Yomi shiur – Rav Tzvi Halamish shlit”a – completed tractate Ketuvot in the presence of Rav Berland shlit”a, together with the saying of “Hadran Alach” and the Kaddish that comes after a completion of a tractate.  Afterwards, the Rav shlit”a went out for the Maariv prayer like every evening.
