Supporters of the Beit Midrash in Shiur at Home of Rabbi Eliezer Berland Shlit”a

As part of the series of shiurim for supporters of the Beit Midrash, last Wednesday another shiur was held at the home of our Rebbe Rav Eliezer Berland shlit”a.

In the shiur, the Rav shlit”a spoke about many subjects in all areas of Torah.  He began with the weekly parashah, and continued speaking about holiness, domestic tranquility, the level of the city of Shechem mentioned in the parashah “Lech Lechah,” the matter of Yosef HaTzaddik, and about Rachel, that she was buried specifically on a main road.  Likewise, he spoke about current events, about the victory of keepers of Torah and Mitzvot in the elections, and once again described this as like the miracle of the splitting of the Red Sea mamash!

Likewise, he spoke about the rock/Miriam’s well, about the angel who came to Manoach’s wife, who is the mother of Shimshon – the Tzalalfonit.  He also spoke about Likutey Moharan Torah 21, about the seven lights which will illuminate in the future.  He then spoke about how the women in the desert were holy, and thus brought the mirrors as is brought in parashat Pekudei.  Towards the end of the shiur, he spoke about the fact that we don’t say complete Hallel on the seventh day of Passover since Hashem’s creatures were being drowned in the sea (during the splitting of the Red Sea, which was on the seventh day of Passover).  The Rav asked, that it’s possible to say that since the Egyptians threw millions of children in the river, what relevance is there to have mercy on them?  The Rav answered that the Jews needed to get them to do teshuva.  Here is a short excerpt from the shiur:

“The Egyptians threw millions of children in the river; then [we] need to still have mercy on them [the Egyptians]?  No, because they drowned in the sea.  Because you were there 210 years – you needed to get them to do teshuva…  ‘All flesh will call in Your name’ – a person needs…we say in Aleinu Leshabeach, ‘All flesh will call in Your name’ – it’s possible to get the whole world to do teshuva, because there is no person who it’s not possible to get to do teshuva.  ‘To turn to You all the wicked of the earth; all dwellers of the earth will recognize and know’ – all dwellers of the earth!  All!  We say this every day in ‘therefore we hope.’  ‘All dwellers of the earth will recognize and know, because to You all knees will bow.’  Now there was a great victory yesterday, like the splitting of the Red Sea, because they said that they were going to put yeshiva students in jail…”

And so the Rav continued to speak about the greatness of the miracle of the victory of keepers of Torah and Mitzvot, then going back to speak about Yosef HaTzaddik, that the main sin of the brothers was “in his pleading to us, we didn’t listen.”  He completed the shiur speaking about Yiftach’s daughter, bringing what the Abudarham said, that Yiftach’s daughter didn’t really die, rather she was considered as dead, since she was prepared to die.

Our Rebbe Rav Eliezer Berland shlit”a in a shiur to supporters of the Beit Midrash

After over an hour and fifteen minutes of a shiur of fiery words and full of Torah, chizzuk, and Agadah, the Rav finished the shiur and afterwards handed out to the supporters a gift from “United Chasidei Breslov.”
