The holy kabbalist Rav Dov Kook speaking about Rav Eliezer Berland

Handwritten note of Rav Kook describing Rabbi Berland as Rabbi Eliezer HaGadol

The following are the words of Rav Dov Kook on four different occasions:

“Shemayim is very angry about the people who are disgracing the Gaon and Tzaddik, Rav Eliezer Berland” – Rav Dov Kook

The following words were said three years’ ago by Rav Dov Kook, the enormously holy and respected kabbalist, and descendant of Rav Avraham Yitzhak HaCohen Kook, Israel’s first chief rabbi, who lives in Tiberius. The nephew of Rav Kook who sent this to us added: “I don’t remember Rav Kook ever saying something similar to this, before.”

This is what Rav Dov Kook said:

      דברי-הרב-דב-קוק-על-עלילה-על-הרב-ברלנד

“Shemayim (heaven; the upper worlds) is very angry about the people who are disgracing the Gaon and Tzaddik, Rav Eliezer Berland. I am very concerned about the situation. Who knows what will be with us? Hashem Yitborach (the Holy One, blessed be He) is very angry, like the time when the Jews sinned by making the Golden Calf. If it wasn’t for the mercy of Hashem Yitborach, who knows what would happen to us? The main claim is not against Am Yisrael, because when a Jew doesn’t keep Torah and mitzvot and sees words like this in the media, it’s unfortunately only natural that he’s going to believe them.

“But what Hashem is really upset about is that not all of the Breslov chassidim believe, with all their hearts, that [Rav Berland] is a Tzaddik. If all of the Breslov chassidim would believe that Rav Berland is a Tzaddik, then Moshiach would come. But since the Samech Mem (the Evil One) knows this, he’s trying to torpedo it.
“The fact that Rav Berland is unable to be in Eretz Yisrael is soul-destroying. The President of Iran has an atom bomb, and Hashem could arrange for it to be dropped on us in a second. But He’s not doing that, because He has mercy on us.”

On a separate occasion, when some of his students were trying to question him about Rav Berland, Rav Kook responded: “How can you even have any thoughts against Rav Berland?! I myself am not even able to grasp him.”

The Mekubal HaRav Dov Kook writes that Rav Eliezer Berland “is Rabbi Eliezer HaGadol”

Two avreichim (kollel students) were in Tiberius two and a half years’ ago, visiting the Mekubal HaRav Dov Kook. The students waited for Rav Kook to finish saying the Amidah prayer, which took him three hours, before asking for his signature supporting a fundraising project for Rav Berlands Yeshiva. Attached to his signature Rav Kook wrote the following words:

Rav Kook on Rav Berland Eliezer Hagadol
“Appended to this, in honor of Rav Berland shlit”a, he is Rabbi Eliezer HaGadol, who suffers in the hard exile of Am Yisrael. D Kook Tiberius.”

One of the members of Rav Kook’s family told us he had never heard Rav Kook compare any other modern-day Tzaddik to a Tanna (Gemara sage), before.

Video of Rav Dov Kook – “Rav Berlands return will usher in the redemption”

Purim night 2015. A few students of Rabbi Eliezer Berland after returning from Holland were walking with the Mekubal Rabbi Dov Kook from Tveria in Ramat Gan at midnight. They related to him a little bit about what the people are going through there how they have to travel from village to village, and also mentioned how Rabbi Berland attracts a following wherever he goes and many people help them including non-jews. The kabbalist smiles and says “There will be tremendous Divine Providence, he will return and redeem us, his return will usher in the redemption.”

“Rav Berland is above nature” – Rav Dov Kook

Right from the start of Rav Berland going into exile, Rav Dov Kook has been unstinting in his praise of him. Much of what he’s said has been reported on our own website, and also published in many other places and formats in the media. The following account (originally published in the Hebrew on May 29, 2016) is all new, and was told to us by Mor Devorah:

      מור-דבורה-על-הרב-קוק

“On Friday, erev chag Pesach, I travelled to Tiberius in order to get a bracha from Rav Dov Kook. While I was there, I had the merit of accompanying Rav Kook to the grave of Rabbi Chiya, who is buried in Tiberius. While we were travelling together, I took the opportunity to ask Rav Kook about Rav Berland.

I asked him: “What does the Rav say about everything that Rav Berland is going through? All of the suffering that he’s enduring?”

He replied: “Everything that’s happening with Rav Berland is above nature. It’s impossible to explain this. Everything that’s happening with Rav Berland is above nature.” Rav Kook repeated himself twice, in order to make this point very clear.”
