The Secret of the Incense of Nadav and Avihu and the Sale of Yosef – Daily Ma’amar by R’ Berland Shlit”a

For Nadav and Avihu erred and brought incense – which are the mentalities of Ema [the aspect of Binah/Understanding], without the cleaning and preparing of the lamps with oil – which are the mentalities of Aba [the aspect of Chochmah/Wisdom], because only after the cleaning and preparing of the lamps in the morning – the mentalities of Aba, then is the incense brought – the mentalities of Ema.

And so the brothers who sold Yosef for the sake of shoes, and each one of them received a pair of shoes and two silver pieces, which are two dinars, because Yosef the dream interpreter [POTeR] would stitch together [TOFeR – the same Hebrew letters] shoes for the Shechinah (the Divine Presence), because Chanoch, who stitched shoes, became spiritually bound within him [in ibur], and over every single stitch he would say “Baruch Shem Kivod Malchuto Le’olam Vaed – Blessed is the Name of His glorious kingdom for all eternity,” that this verse is the song of the frog, at every moment and second.  Because the frog [Tzefardeah] is a bird of knowledge [Tzipor Deah], that it knows how to draw mentalities of Aba, and the chirping [Tziftzuf] of the birds every single morning are the mentalities of Ema, that they are in place of the incense which they offer every single morning.

Because in the Temple, it was forbidden to walk in shoes, and all of the Land of Israel – from the time of the forefathers until the sale of Yosef – it was holy with the holiness of the Temple, and in the future Jerusalem will spread over all of the Land of Israel, and the Temple all over Jerusalem, which is to say, that all Jerusalem will be holy with the holiness of the [Temple] courtyard, with the holiness of the Temple, and all the Land of Israel will be holy with the holiness of Jerusalem.  And this was from the time of the forefathers, that Hashem said to Avraham, “Arise, walk about the Land through its length and breadth,” and through this Avraham Avinu sanctified the whole Land of Israel with the holiness of the Temple, and it was forbidden to walk in it with shoes, and so Hashem said to Moshe (Shemot 3:5), and the angel to Yehoshua (Yehoshua 5:15): “Remove your shoes from your feet, for the place that you stand upon is holy ground,” because the three forefathers succeeded in drawing to the Land of Israel, Avraham – through his walking about the Land through its length and breadth, and Yitzchak – through the binding [akeida], and Yaakov – through the dream of Yaakov “and angels of God were ascending and descending on it,” and all of the Land was sanctified with the holiness of the Holy of Holies, and it was forbidden to walk with shoes.

And therefore, the brothers of Yosef would walk from the day of their birth barefoot and didn’t feel at all the thorns and thistles, until the sale of Yosef, and from then on the holiness departed from the Land and only the Foundation Stone [Even HaShtiyah] remained holy of holies, and they needed to buy shoes.
