The Daily Ma’amar by our Rebbe Rav Eliezer Berland shlit”a, from Wednesday, 4 Sivan, courtesy of the “Hashem Hu HaElokim” leaflet:
“The sun and the moon stood stood still in their abodes. [Israel] would travel by the light of Your arrows, by the lightning flash of Your spear” [Chabakuk 3:11].
“A glow was like the light [of day]; rays of light [came] from His hand to [Israel], and there His hidden strength [was revealed]” [ibid. 3:4]. Because the sun and the moon do not want to shine until You carry out judgment on the gentile nations, and therefore they say every morning in “Give thanks to Hashem for He is good, for His kindness endures forever”: “God of vengeance, Hashem, God of vengeance, appear.” For the sun does not want to shine anymore — only if Hashem avenges the vengeance of the spilt blood of His servants.
And therefore, when Reuven said at the selling of Yosef: “Anah Ani Ba — Where can I go” (Bereishit 37:30), already it was announced the killing of the Ten Martyrs, and already all the killings, holocausts, and destructions that would be until the coming of Mashiach ben David. And this is the initial letters of “Anah Ani Ba” — “E-l Nekamot Hashem, E-l Nekamot Hophiah — God of vengeance, Hashem, God vengeance, appear,” that we say every single morning the song of the sun — “Give thanks to Hashem for He is good, for His kindness endures forever.”
“God of vengeance, Hashem, God vengeance, appear” — because only when we bind ourselves to all Ten Martyrs, and especially to the soul of Rabbi Akiva, whose flesh was scraped with iron combs, only then does Hashem hear our prayers and is there an ascent to our prayer. Only then will we return to the soil which Hashem promised to our forefathers, to Avraham, Yitzchak, Yaakov. And then: “The depth raised its voice, and the heights raised their hands” [Chabakuk 3:10].
