Throw Away the Impure Devices and Sanctify the Mind — Daily Chizzuk by R’ Berland Shlit”a

The Daily Chizzuk by our Rebbe, Rav Eliezer Berland shlit”a: “You need to throw away the impure devices, guard the eyes and sanctify the mind.”

Wednesday, 27 Adar Bet 5782

These are his holy words:

“The Rebbe says it’s impossible… until a person doesn’t pass by all the types of the Sitra Achra [evil forces] in the world, then he can’t see Mashiach.

“And in this generation, there is such Sitra Achra that there wasn’t in the Generation of the Flood, and not in any generation, because in the Generation of the Flood, Noach built a city, and Metushelach built a city.  Chanoch ascended with his body to Heaven, but beforehand, before this, he built a city, ‘she bore Chanoch, and he built a city and called the name of the city like the name of his son Chanoch’ (Breisheit 4:17).  They built a city with large walls and several Cushim brought them the food.  Then man left the city [where they were protected from all the vanities of this world].

“But today, every person has in his pocket not just one iphone, rather five iphones, that he can see simultaneously five impure sights, that such impurities were never seen in any generation.  The biggest evildoers didn’t see such impure sights like those that are ensnaring today boys and girls, and small youth.  Children at the age of ten are already seeing such impure things that they don’t have for what to be religious, they don’t have for what.

“Because until a person receives the power of reason, the evil inclination rules over him, ‘the inclination of a man’s heart is evil from his youth,’ from the moment he emerges from his mother’s womb.  The evil inclination precedes the good inclination by thirteen years, and after this he will already be the master of the house.  A person already reaches the age of twenty, and the evil inclination rules over him; he doesn’t manage to free himself from it.

“A person needs to know that the first thing [is] he throws away all the iphones, and all the smartphones, and the new technology which every day is renewed again.  They call this a ‘geometric series,’ that this multiplies itself and skips endless times over — the Sitra Achra skips endless times over.

“The Rebbe says that when one sits down to learn, and applies his thought and heart to Torah, and hides away in it, he needs to understand what he is learning, the Rebbe says, and he needs to innovate insights, because the Torah is called ‘poor’ in one place and ‘rich’ in another place.  And he needs to innovate more and more insights every moment and to write down insights.

“Moshe Rabbeinu grew up in Pharaoh’s house and he didn’t open his eyes.  We are inside Pharaoh’s house today.  Today, it’s worse that Pharaoh’s house.  In Pharaoh’s house they didn’t see such forbidden sights like they see here, every boy and girl.  And everyone has impure devices, the smartphone, the iphone, and the rest of the terrible devices, and he doesn’t know how to take leave of this — it’s written ‘tied to it like a dog.’

“Therefore, Yosef is called the Tzaddik, because he guarded his eyes, and in his life he didn’t lift up his eyes.  Over a course of 110 years, he didn’t lift up his eyes.  Therefore, a golden chain was on his neck, because he didn’t lift his neck, and the second royal chariot, because he never lifted his eyes.

“The goal of a person is to attain a quick and sharp mind, that he will have the quickest mind in the world, the sharpest in the world.
