Why Did Moshe Rabbeinu Get Angry?  — Daily Ma’amar by Rabbi Eliezer Berland Shlit”a

The Daily Ma’amar by our Rebbe Rav Eliezer Berland shlit”a, written on Monday night, parashat Vayahkel-Pekudei, according to Midrash Tanchuma.  Courtesy of the “Hashem Hu HaElokim” leaflet.

It is written in Midrash Tanchuma at the end of Parashat Pekudei, that when Moshe Rabbeinu saw the women, how they were bringing the mirrors to the Tabernacle, he was furious and became angry with great fury and anger, and said: “How could it be that these women are not embarrassed to bring mirrors to the Tabernacle.  Behold, the mirrors are made in the first place for the evil inclination?!  There is no choice other than to take heavy iron axes and to cut down the shins of these women!”

And then a Heavenly voice went out from Heaven and said: “Moshe Moshe!  You have a big mistake on you; don’t you know that in the merit of those mirrors the Jewish people were redeemed from Egypt?!”

And therefore “will atone for him” – the initial letters of “Yael,” that in the merit of Yael who killed Sisra and smashed and pierced his temple, the entire Sitra Achra [“Other Side” – the side of evil] fell and nothing remained of it except one [or “even one”].
