Why did the Lamed-Vav Tzaddik knock on the prison window in the middle of the night?

In July, the Lamed-Vav Tzaddik HaRav Mor Yosef Golan from moshav Alma in the north arrived in the middle of the night at the Tzalmon prison where Rabbi Eliezer Berland shlit”a is incarcerated.

Rav Golan knocked repeatedly on the doors and windows of the prison and requested to meet with Rabbi Berland shlit”a, relates Rav Golan’s assistant, Rav Natanel Shnir.  Rav Golan insisted on entering, but the prison guards replied, claiming that this was in violation of prison regulations, and that they didn’t have the authority to allow him to enter.

After repeated attempts, Rav Golan attempted to act through one of his students who was connected politically to the people in charge of the prison.  However, to our sorrow (and, so too, to the sorrow of all the Jewish people, who are suffering through pandemic and exile), he didn’t succeed in meeting with Rabbi Berland in order to perform what he was shown from Heaven to do.

Afterwards, Rav Golan was asked, “What was so urgent for you [that you needed] to meet with Rabbi Berland in Tzalmon prison?”

Rav Golan answered, “If I had met with Rabbi Berland shlit”a, we, with G-d’s help, could have sweetened the decree of the pandemic!”
