THE DAILY CHIZZUK OF MOREINU HARAV ELIEZER BERLAND SHLIT”A

MONDAY, 20 MENACHEM AV 5785

It is written that Hashem will make peace between David, Achitofel, and Doeg, “Upon Edom I will cast my shoe” (Tehillim 60:10).

“Upon Edom” – this is Edom -- the Edomite. “My shoe” – what is the meaning of “shoe”?

Because [the intention is that] the feet of Leah enter into the Keter (Crown) of Rachel. The feet of Leah are the Keter of Rachel. Therefore, “Upon Edom I will cast my shoe.” For, “What humility made to be the heel of her sandal, fear made to be the crown for her head” (Yerushalmi Shabbat 1:3).

That is, the crown of fear is from the shoe of Leah – “Upon Edom I will cast my shoe.” What is “my shoe”?

It is the shoe of Leah!

Because Moshe merited to the aspect of Leah – “The knot of tefillin He showed to the humble one” (Song of Glory). Moshe merited to such humility -- he merited to the knot of tefillin. Moshe reached the level of the knot of tefillin. He reached such an exalted level, because the highest level is the knot of tefillin -- this is Leah.

For Rachel is the arm tefillin, whereas Zeir Anpin is the head tefillin. A person needs to put on tefillin every day; it is forbidden for a single day to pass without putting on tefillin, from the age of 13 until the age of 120. Therefore, Moshe passed away at the age of 120 – people always say, “May you live to 120 years,” like Moshe.

Moshe needs to live even to a thousand years. Adam HaRishon lived until 930, and David came and completed it to a thousand.
