“These are the Names”

LAST THURSDAY, ROSH CHODESH IYAR, PARSHAT KEDOSHIM, AN EVENING OF APPRECIATION WAS HELD AT THE HOME OF MOREINU HARAV ELIEZER BERLAND SHLIT”A FOR DONATORS OF THE TORAH SCROLL WHICH IS BEING WRITTEN FOR THE RESCUE OF AM YISRAEL, FOR THE ELEVATION OF THE SOULS OF ALL THOSE MURDERED IN THE “IRON SWORDS” WAR, FOR THE END OF THE WAR, THE PROTECTION OF THE SOLDIERS AND THE SPEEDY RETURN OF THE HOSTAGES.

The event opened with words by Rabbi Eliyahu Merav shlit”a, and after him, Rabbi Ofer Erez shlit”a.  The Rabbis spoke about the days of Sefirat HaOmer and tied their inner meaning to the writing of the Torah scroll of the Jewish people.  After this, Moreinu HaRav Berland shlit”a entered with the song “Ki Orech Yamim…”  For a number of minutes all the participants stood and danced in honor of the Rav shlit”a.

As mentioned here at the time, the writing of the Torah scroll began on the Rav’s birthday.  Now, after more than four months, the book of Bereishit (Genesis) has been completed.  Moreinu HaRav shlit”a was honored with beginning to write the book of Shemot (Exodus).  Afterwards, the Rav shlit”a spoke a number of words of chizzuk about the significance of the writing of the Torah scroll, and about the humility of Moshe, who didn’t want to write the word “Vayikra.”

After this began songs of gratitude and praise to the Creator of the World for the merit to be part of the writing of the Torah scroll of Am Yisrael, in the pure words of the Rav shlit”a.  The event concluded with the Rabbis speaking about the merit of being part of the writing of the Torah scroll.
