Prayer for a Child who has Begun to Decline Spiritually (May Hashem Protect Us) by Moreinu HaRav Eliezer Berland Shlit"a

From “Leket Tefilot – Yeladim Tzaddikim #2”

Ribbono Shel Olam – Master of the World, Who can do everything, You has known the pure and pristine soul of my son, which was hewn from the Throne of Glory, from its very essence. His sensitive and wounded soul has been tossed about by terrifying and awful upheavals until his injured and torn soul has been ripped into thousands and myriads of fragments – “Like one who chops and splinters [wood] on the ground, so have our bones been scattered to the mouth of the pit.” For many days now, since his bar mitzvah, he has been walking torn and shattered like a man overtaken by a wind – like a raging wind from storm and tempest and like one cast about in the heart of the seas. His torn and shattered soul cries out and screams to return to its root, to the source from which it was quarried, to the roots of it roots from before Creation, to return to primordial years from ancient times. Because of the great sensitivity of his nefesh, ruach, and neshama [the three levels of soul], he has been deeply wounded down to the very depths of his nefesh and neshama.

And now, we have come before You, Master of Compassion, please Hashem, act for Your Name’s sake. Do not allow my sins and the sins of my sins to, God forbid, cause my precious son to distance himself from the way of Torah and pure faith. On the contrary, may this situation transform into a springboard, into a powerful impetus, that will strengthen my son on the path of pure faith – to believe in the holy Torah and in true Tzaddikim, in people who are wholehearted and upright. May my son merit all the levels of holiness, and may the lights of the Torah be revealed to him – pristine, sparkling lights, lights of the Garden of Eden from ancient times, as it is said, “He placed a nut in the Garden of Eden from ancient times.” May he merit to recognize the wonders of Your greatness and the wonders of the greatness of the true Tzaddikim whose light and greatness are hidden from us in the ultimate concealment – just like the hidden and concealed lights of our Creator and Redeemer, Hashem Yitbarach, Who at every moment and every second stands ready to redeem us and to save us from all evil, as it is said in Petach Eliyahu: “There is no one who knows You at all, for You are the most concealed of all concealed things, the will of all wills, the concealment of everything.”

And through this, may You shower upon him from Your infinite light. Open his mind, his understanding, and his heart to recognize Your infinite greatness. Act in Your abundant and infinite mercy so that he should be received with great compassion. May Your simple mercy arouse Your boundless mercy that has no end or limit, and redeem me and my son from every type of suffering in the world, whether spiritual or physical. Illuminate him with pristine, sparkling lights, and may he merit to see “the pleasantness of Hashem and to visit His sanctuary.”
