8th Grade at “Nechamas Tzion” Talmud Torah: A Test and a Lesson in the Home of the Gaon HaTzaddik Rabbi Eliezer Berland shlit"a

Last night, Thursday, 24 Tammuz, in the afternoon, about fifty precious children—parallel 8th-grade classes—who in these days are transitioning from childhood into young manhood, and preparing for next year when they will advance to the “Mechinah for Yeshivah” of the Talmud Torah, merited to draw a little from the great light and to conclude the school year with an incomparable uplift. They entered further and further into holiness, into the home of The Rav Rabbi Eliezer Berland shlit"a, who, upon their arrival, delivered a strengthening lesson for the children.

The Rav shlit"a opened his talk to the students with the subject of the years of the Geulah, as brought in the Aggados of Chazal. As the lesson continued, The Rav addressed many additional matters—too numerous for this page to fully detail—so we will present the main headings of what he spoke about: Parshas Pinchas, and the question of how the halachah was concealed from Moshe Rabbeinu. Shimon and Levi, who killed the people of Shechem, and what it means that they did not take counsel from Yaakov. The Rav also mentioned Har HaCarmel, and how Rabbi Noson describes his journey there—especially regarding the Cave of Elisha—as brought in the days of Moharanat. The Rav mentioned the merit of Eglon, king of Moav: because he rose when he heard Ehud say, “I have a word of G-d for you,” he merited that King David would descend from him through Rus the Moabite. Toward the end of the lesson, The Rav spoke about the special greatness of the offering of Nachshon specifically—because he was the one who jumped first into the sea. Therefore we say, “May my prayer be accepted like the offering of Nachshon,” for Nachshon, through his Emunah in the Tzaddik, merited to prepare all the prayers until the end of all generations.

After the lesson, the precious 8th-grade students—who merited this past school year to complete the entire chapter “Shor Shenagach Es HaParah” with great toil and broad knowledge—merited to be tested before The Rav shlit"a. He took boundless joy and nachas from their knowledge and their strong mastery of their pure learning. Afterwards, the students merited to receive a personal blessing from The Rav shlit"a, who, in his holy way, showered warmth and love upon each and every student, and blessed them all that they should merit to become Torah scholars, truly engaged in Torah and mitzvos.
