A Lesson for Young Men at the Residence of the Gaon and Tzaddik Rabbi Eliezer Berland shlit"a

On Monday night, the 28th of Teves, Parshat Bo, a lesson was held for the young men of Anshei Shlomeinu (our community of followers) at the residence of the Gaon and Tzaddik Rabbi Eliezer Berland shlit"a. Before you is a summary of the lesson that the Rav shlit"a delivered to the young men for approximately forty-five minutes.

Parshat Bo, "On this very day." This year, Purim is "Meshulash" (a triple Purim, occurring when Shushan Purim falls on Shabbos). One who prays after the neitz (sunrise) is like someone jumping onto a train in the middle of its journey. If a person wants the angels created from the Torah he studied all week to accompany him, he should say "Shalom Aleichem" (the song welcoming angels on Friday night). The Bagatz (High Court of Justice) is a white-collar crime organization. "The kings of the earth and all the inhabitants of the world did not believe that an adversary and enemy could enter the gates of Jerusalem" (Lamentations 4:12)—for eight hundred and fifty years, they could not conquer Jerusalem. Sennacherib came with a billion minus one; the number is literal. A person needs to study the entire weekly Torah portion with all the commentaries; Rabbi Chaim Kanievsky zt"l (of blessed memory) spent an entire year studying only the portion with the commentaries. "Who and who are going?" (Exodus 10:8)—Pharaoh said only Joshua and Caleb. The mother of Agam Berger, the hostage, kept Shabbos, and so she merited that her daughter would be released on Shabbos. Even the greatest heretics (apikorsim) want a Torah scroll on Simchat Torah. Miriam watched over Moses at the Nile; this was a literal case of pikuach nefesh (saving a life). In the past, everyone wore veils. The Arabs understand that one must cover the body of the snake (referring to the physical body). If one highlights the body of the snake (through immodesty), they get cancer or are kidnapped to Gaza. Pharaoh sent people every day to kill Yocheved and Miriam, but they turned into walls and decorations. Moshe Rabbeinu (Moses our Teacher) went with the flock, and they too did not eat for forty days and forty nights. And Elijah the Prophet also desired the mouth of Moses—"Mouth to mouth I speak with him"—and he did not eat for forty days and forty nights. Anyone can refrain from eating for forty days and forty nights, and in this merit, we will merit the complete Geulah (Redemption) speedily in our days, Amen.
