A Lesson in the Home of the Gaon and Tzaddik Rabbi Eliezer Berland shlit"a • For Our Sake and for Our Generation

These days, as everyone knows, a rescue campaign is taking place for the Shuvu Banim institutions "For Our Sake and for Our Generation", as encouragement for the activists so they will continue with strength to save the Shuvu Banim institutions. They merited to enter for a special lesson, in the innermost holy place, with The Rav Rabbi Eliezer Berland shlit"a, on Wednesday night, the eve of 9 Adar, before the Ma’ariv prayer.

At the beginning of the lesson, The Rav Rabbi Eliezer Berland shlit"a recounted the story of the Megillah, and also spoke about the days of Purim that are drawing near, and how each person must see how to prepare for the days of Purim. In the course of his words, he spoke about strengthening Torah study on Purim in particular, for it is the receiving of the Torah out of love—"They fulfilled and accepted" (kimu v’kiblu). After that, he spoke at length from the Gemara in Chullin, according to the Chasam Sofer, about the incident in which Rabbah slaughtered Rabbi Zeira, and that their dispute was a halachic one—whether chiduda comes before libuna or not. He expanded on this through all the poskim on this sugya.

After that, he spoke from Tanach about the episode in which Koresh and Daryavesh killed Belshatzar, and he elaborated in describing the entire story that took place. He also spoke further about the story of the Megillah regarding Bigsan and Seresh and the miracle that occurred there. He concluded again with the matter of Rabbah and Rabbi Zeira: even though Rabbi Zeira said it in a joking manner, that he should slaughter him, the incident happened on Purim—to teach that on Purim it is possible to bring the dead back to life!
