"A person is chased away, hated – so he brings Mashiach ben David" – Words hewn from fire by Morinu HaRav Eliezer Berland shlit"a
"In the merit that he sat in the pit, he merited and his whole generation merited with him." We brought before you the words of Morinu HaRav Eliezer Berland shlit"a from the lesson he delivered 11 years ago on the Yahrtzeit (anniversary of passing) of Moharnat [Reb Nosson], 5766. Now, we are happy to present to you the continuation of the words Morinu HaRav Berland shlit"a spoke then. Words showing that although Morinu HaRav shlit"a served Hashem Yisbarach with all his strength his entire life, he still yearned for the moment he could climb to the most sublime level of self-sacrifice (mesirus nefesh).
"A person is chased away, hated – so he brings Mashiach ben David." The Rav continued his words in the lesson hewn from flames during the Hillula of Reb Nosson. "He will enter Gan Eden with the body like Eliezer, the servant of Avraham, and like Yosef HaTzaddik. Yosef HaTzaddik—they hated him, they sold him; he was in Egypt for 20 years not seeing a living soul, not seeing a Jew, all alone—he needed to dance. He would dance with himself."
"It is written 'Ish Matzliach Gever Kapoz' (A successful man is a leaping man). The Rebbe says, whoever is happy is always successful. What is 'Gever Kapoz'? A man, a person who dances all day, is called a 'Gever Kapoz.' What is a successful man? All day long he dances, dances, dances with himself, dances all day, dances and sings. He sings songs to Hashem all day; he just dances and dances and dances and dances."
"The Rebbe says, 'I attained Yechida (the singular, highest level of the soul) at the ultimate upper level.' The Rebbe reached Yechida at the ultimate upper level where there is no world at all, nothing, no people, nothing whatsoever—Yechida at the ultimate upper level. The Rebbe's soul was drawn from a place where there was no Shevirah (shattering of the vessels). There is the letter Yud of the World of the Malbush (Garment), which is higher than all the worlds, higher than the World of the Tehiru (Purity), and from this Yud, the soul of Rebbe Nachman and the soul of Reb Nosson were drawn."
"These are souls that had no Shevirah (shattering). Wherever you put them, even among the nations, wherever you place them—like Moshe Rabbeinu who grew up in Pharaoh's palace. Wherever you put him, in Pharaoh's palace, wherever you throw him. Avraham grew up with Terach. Granted, Yitzchak grew up with Avraham, and Yaakov grew up with Yitzchak, but Avraham grew up with Terach. Moshe was in the house of Pharaoh. David—they threw him into the sheep pens, they called him a mamzer (illegitimate). Until age 28, his father called him a mamzer. 'I was a stranger to my brothers'—what does 'I was a stranger to my brothers' mean? They called him a mamzer. So David's father calls him a mamzer, everyone calls him a mamzer, all the brothers call him a mamzer, he has no encouragement whatsoever—he just sits and plays music and sings to Hashem."
"Yosef sits for 12 years in prison. The brothers sold him, and he dances for 12 years in prison; he is simply a 'Gever Kapoz.' For 12 years in prison, he spends his time dancing. He says [regarding the verse] 'You remembered me and You remembered me'—he fills it [the time]. So what if I am in prison? Hashem is found even in prison; Hashem is everywhere! As long as you are alive, you must dance and sing!"
"Yosef was certain that his father had sold him. Why didn't he notify his father? Because he said, 'Is it possible they sold me without Father's agreement?' He loved his brothers so much, he judged them favorably to such an extent that he said, 'It is impossible that the brothers sold me without Father's knowledge. Surely Father ruled for them to sell me; their father sent me there so they would sell me. How is it possible that Father doesn't know? It must be that because I said my father and mother would bow down to me, measure for measure, he is now selling me as a slave. I hinted to him that in the end, you will be my servant, you will bow to me, so now he says measure for measure, he is selling me as a slave.' Because this is what I deserve. Truly, if a person knows that everything is what he deserves, he has no questions."
"According to Rabbi Yehuda Chunio, he said, 'I deserve it.' If 'I deserve it,' then it is fine. But according to Rabbi Meir Chunio, he was the Tzaddik, so 'I don't deserve it.' If 'I don't deserve it'—then he crashes completely. A person knows 'everything is coming to me' (I deserve it); whatever is done to me, I deserve it. He always knows 'I deserve it,' fine. Then he can pass through all the things in the world, all the persecutions and all the insults, because 'I deserve it all.' On the contrary, this is still too little; I deserve much more."
"Always know: 'I deserve what is being done to me, so and so.' Then he will hold on; he can get through his entire life. The Rebbe becomes impregnated (mis'aber) within him; Reb Nosson becomes impregnated within him. The whole reason we observe the Yahrtzeit is because we want the soul of Reb Nosson to become impregnated within us."
"Yehoshua bin Nun served Moshe Rabbeinu; Reb Nosson served the Rebbe. The Rebbe is the aspect of Moshe; he is seven times greater than Moshe. He merited double that of Moshe, for Moshe goes and ascends from level to level. We travel to the Rebbe, we travel to Reb Nosson, so Reb Nosson becomes impregnated within us literally. The moment a person goes through all the persecutions like Reb Nosson, all the humiliations like Reb Nosson, then he becomes impregnated within him. He becomes a piece of Reb Nosson; he receives the mind of Reb Nosson, the heart of Reb Nosson."
