A Prayer to Merit Rosh Chodesh, Which is a Day of Rest for Women Who Did Not Sin in the Sins of the Desert and the Calf, and to be Included in the Sefiros
Rosh Chodesh: A Day of Rest for Women
Master of the Universe, the Omnipotent One, from whom no purpose can be withheld. In the merit of Rosh Chodesh, which is a day of rest for women, because they did not sin in the sin of the Golden Calf. They were not enticed by the sins of the Erev Rav (the mixed multitude), neither in the sin of the Calf nor in the sin of the Spies, and they did not participate in any sin in the desert. Therefore, they merited to ascend to the level of Binah (Understanding), and were included in the Binah of Adam Kadmon (the Primordial Man). This is represented by the knot of the Tefillin, which corresponds to the spiritual aspect of Leah. For the hand-Tefillin corresponds to Rachel, the head-Tefillin corresponds to Zeir Anpin (the Lesser Countenance), and the knot of the Tefillin corresponds to Leah. The knot is made only of leather, without the parchment scrolls and without the Mochin (intellect/mind), because "Leah's eyes were tender." She alone wept continuously from the age of three so that she would not fall into the portion of Esav. For the first three Sefiros of Binah are called Tehom (the Deep), in the mystical secret of "And the spirit of God hovered over the face of the waters" and "Deep calls to deep." Binah is the Upper Deep, the firmament of Aravos. As the Upper Deep calls out and says, "Gather your waters," and the Lower Deep says, "Pour forth your waters" (Taanis 25b). For the "spirit of God" refers to the first three Sefiros of Binah. "Hovering" corresponds to Kesser (Crown), while "over the face of the waters" corresponds to Chochmah (Wisdom) and Binah within Binah. "To Him who spreads out the earth above the waters" refers to the Kesser of Binah. "Hovering over the face of the waters" refers to Chochmah, Binah, and Daas (Knowledge) of Binah. For a woman is called "Eretz" (Earth), and the earth has seven names, corresponding to the seven lower Sefiros: Eretz corresponds to Yesod (Foundation); Adamah to Hod (Splendor); Gai to Netzach (Eternity); Neshiyah to Tiferes (Beauty); Tziyah to Gevurah (Severity); Arka to Chesed (Loving-kindness); and Tevel to Binah. The main thing is to include everything within Binah. This is accomplished on every single Rosh Chodesh, when all seven Sefiros are included within Binah. Then, it becomes possible to see Hashem face-to-face, and to draw down the soul of King Mashiach. As it is written in Parashas Noach, "And behold, an olive leaf freshly plucked was in her mouth." This represents the soul of King Mashiach, as it is written, "But I am like a flourishing olive tree in the house of God."
For the elevation of the soul of R' Pinchas ben Yisrael and Michal z"l, who passed away on the 29th of Shevat. May his soul be bound in the bond of life.
