A Shiur for the Students of the New Yeshivah at the Home of Rabbi Eliezer Berland shlit"a

Tonight, the night of the 3rd of Teves—after the holy day of Zos Chanukah—at the home of The Rav, Rabbi Eliezer Berland shlit"a, a strengthening shiur took place for the students of the new yeshivah, under the leadership of Rabbi Yehudah Krimelovsky shlit"a.

At the beginning of the shiur, The Rav shlit"a spoke at length about the miracle of Chanukah. He opened with a question: Why don’t we make a festival over the military victories of the Chashmonaim? Why do we celebrate specifically the day they purified the Beis HaMikdash? He answered that even after they entered the Beis HaMikdash there were still many more wars. He then spoke broadly about the Chanukah miracle, explaining that even before this, the Tzedukim had controlled the Beis HaMikdash for three years. From there he moved to the sugya of how the incense powder was placed on Yom Kippur—how the Tzedukim would do it the opposite way—and he expanded on this, connecting it to the story of the Chanukah miracle. Afterward, he spoke with fiery passion about guarding the eyes and Kedushas HaBris, sharing awe-inspiring accounts and describing the tremendous holiness of the Tzaddikim of every generation. He also spoke about the pure Menorah in Parshas Tetzaveh. At the end of the shiur, he told the story of Yosef Meshisa, who gave over his life for Kiddush Hashem!
