Photography: Keren HaTzaddik InstituteLast night, a joyous celebration took place for the wedding of the beloved grandson of the Gaon HaTzaddik Rabbi Eliezer Berland shlit"a: Avraham, son of the distinguished groom’s family, Rabbi Nosson Rubinstein, son of the chassidic Rabbi Yehoshua Dov Rubinstein shlit"a, with the daughter of the chassidic Rabbi Nachman Goldshmidt shlit"a. The wedding was held at Kinor David Halls in the city of Beit Shemesh. Below is an expanded report of the wedding proceedings, along with a stunning photo gallery:
The Chuppah and Kiddushin Ceremony
At 8:00 PM, the Chuppah and Kiddushin ceremony began, with The Rav, Rabbi Eliezer Berland shlit"a—the chassan’s grandfather—being honored to officiate the Chuppah and Kiddushin. After the blessings of Kiddushin, the giving of the ring, and the breaking of the glass, The Rav read the Kesubah in his clear and pure voice, with tremendous vitality at the conclusion of the reading. Before the Sheva Brachos, The Rav, Rabbi Eliezer Berland shlit"a, placed ashes on the chassan’s head, as is customary when saying “If I forget you…” After that, the Sheva Brachos began: the first two blessings honored the grandfather, the chassidic Rabbi Yehoshua Dov Rubinstein shlit"a; the third blessing honored the kallah’s grandfather, Rabbi Yosef Goldshmidt shlit"a; the fourth blessing honored the kallah’s uncle, Rabbi Moshe Bamberger (may he live long); the fifth blessing honored the chassan’s uncle, Rabbi Meir Dovid Izak shlit"a—of the distinguished groom’s family; the sixth blessing honored the chassan’s uncle, Rabbi Nachman Rubinstein (may he live long); and the final blessing honored The Rav, the Gaon HaTzaddik Rabbi Eliezer Berland shlit"a. After the Chuppah concluded, The Rav shlit"a went out to sit and learn with a settled mind in an apartment near the hall. The wedding celebration continued with the wedding meal.
Joyful Dances at the Tzaddikim’s Wedding Celebration for the Chassan and Kallah
After the meal, at 10:15 PM, the dancing began with great enthusiasm at the Tzaddikim’s celebration. In the middle of the dancing, a choir of the grandchildren and great-grandchildren of The Rav, Rabbi Eliezer Berland shlit"a, from the Rubinstein family, sang together in a special and moving choir. After midnight, the dancing intensified even more with the entrance of The Rav, Rabbi Eliezer Berland shlit"a. The joy soared heavenward: all of our friends from across the country who came to take part in the Tzaddikim’s celebration danced and rejoiced with the chassan and kallah—true simchas beis tzaddikim.
After nearly an hour of dancing together with The Rav shlit"a at the wedding of his grandson, The Rav shlit"a sat at the head table together with the chassan and the family for the Cossacks dance. The talented bochurim who merited to gladden the chassan and kallah at this simchas beis tzaddikim danced with remarkable order and precision, adding a number of their own acrobatic moves to increase the joy of the chassan and kallah.
After the Cossacks dance concluded, the bochurim approached The Rav shlit"a to receive a blessing and to wish Mazal Tov to the chassan (may he live long). Immediately afterward, the “Seven Beggars” dance began, as several avreichim entered the hall dressed up—each one as a different beggar from the Seven Beggars. At the end of the dance, the avreichim came to receive the blessing of The Rav, Rabbi Eliezer Berland shlit"a.
The Gift from the Bochurim of Yeshivas Chochmah V’Daas
The bochurim of Yeshivas Chochmah V’Daas took upon themselves to learn diligently until the end of the days of celebration—the Sheva Brachos—approximately two thousand pages of Gemara and two thousand consecutive hours. They presented a summary of the pages and hours, together with a beautifully arranged fruit basket and a blessing as a wedding gift, to The Rav shlit"a and to the chassan (may he live long).
An Emotional “Zitz” of Heartfelt Songs with the Youth Group
As a sign of appreciation for the chassan Avraham Rubinstein’s (may he live long) extensive work on behalf of the youth group in our holy community, after the Cossacks dance and the Seven Beggars, more than one hundred bochurim from the group (may they be protected) sat on the floor in front of the head table and began, together with The Rav shlit"a, to sing songs of emotion and awakening. They began with the niggun “In Breslov brent a fayer” (“In Breslov, a fire is burning”), followed by several additional heartfelt songs. They concluded with the song customarily sung to a chassan, “Shema yedidi…”—a song that speaks entirely about the ultimate purpose.
Birkas HaMazon, Sheva Brachos, and a Short Shiur
After the zitz ended, they recited Birkas HaMazon. For the zimun, the grandfather—the chassidic Rabbi Yehoshua Dov Rubinstein shlit"a—was honored, and for all of the Sheva Brachos, The Rav, Rabbi Eliezer Berland shlit"a, was honored.
After the Sheva Brachos concluded, The Rav shlit"a delivered a short shiur on the weekly parshah, speaking about the greatness of Rachel’s noble act of giving Leah the signs, and he also spoke in praise of the chassan and kallah. At the end of the shiur, The Rav shlit"a left the simchas beis tzaddikim for the wedding of his beloved grandson at 2:30 AM, and returned to the holy city of Jerusalem, as our friends accompanied him with regal song all the way to his holy abode.
