An Everlasting Edifice • Sheva Brachos for the Great-Grandson of the Gaon and Tzaddik Rabbi Eliezer Berland shlit"a

This week on Monday, the eve of the 10th of Tammuz, the final Sheva Brachos (seven blessings) celebration was held for the great-grandson of the Gaon and Tzaddik Rabbi Eliezer Berland shlit"a. The groom, Shimon may his light shine, is the son of the Chassid Rabbi Nachman Treisman shlit"a, son-in-law of the Zucker family. He married the daughter of the R"M (Torah lecturer) at the 'Chachma V'Daat' Yeshiva, the Chassid Rabbi Yitzchak Halperin shlit"a, son-in-law of the Chassid and Mashpia (spiritual mentor) Rabbi Michael Gol shlit"a, Rosh Yeshiva of 'Maginei Eretz'.
In the middle of the Sheva Brachos meal, which took place at the holy residence, our teacher the Rav, Rabbi Eliezer Berland shlit"a, entered and began delivering a Torah lesson at the final Sheva Brachos gathering. Before you is a report on the course of the lesson: The Rav shlit"a began the lesson regarding the counting of years. Afterward, he dealt with the question of why the 39 Melachos (forbidden labors) of Shabbat are not mentioned explicitly in the Torah. He answered that [if they were written] the gentiles would copy the laws of Shabbat for themselves. He also discussed the matter of the Haftarah (prophetic reading) of Elijah the Prophet. He then cited the holy Rambam (Maimonides) regarding the Tzaddik, who cannot be grasped at all, and in whom no Reshimu (trace) of the physical body remains, but rather he is pure intellect alone. After the conclusion of the lesson, the Rav shlit"a honored the grandfather—the Chassid Rabbi Michael Gol shlit"a—with the Zimmun (invitation to Grace after Meals) including "Devai Haser V'Gam Charon" (a liturgical poem recited at weddings to remove sorrow). After the conclusion of Birkat Hamazon (Grace after Meals), our teacher the Rav shlit"a was honored with reciting all of the Sheva Brachos. After the conclusion of the Sheva Brachos, the Rav shlit"a remained seated on his holy chair for about half an hour for singing and dancing in the joy of the Tzaddik’s house.
