And the Name of the One Was Eliezer • Coverage of Shabbos Parshas Yisro in the Presence of the Gaon HaTzaddik Rabbi Eliezer Berland shlit"a

Presented here is an extensive report from the prayers and shiurim (Torah lessons) that took place on Shabbos Kodesh (the holy Shabbos), Parshas Yisro, 20 Shevat 5786, in the presence of the Gaon HaTzaddik Rabbi Eliezer Berland shlit"a:

Shabbos Kodesh Night

At 16:59, Rabbi Berland shlit"a went out to the balcony of his home for Minchah (the afternoon prayer) of Erev Shabbos (Friday), adorned in his Shabbos garments. For 15 minutes they sang “Or Zarua LaTzaddik” (“Light is sown for the righteous”). After that, Rabbi Berland shlit"a stood for the Minchah prayer.

At the conclusion of Minchah for Erev Shabbos, he recited the Seder HaHiskashrus (the order of spiritual connection/attachment) word for word, and the entire congregation responded after him. After that, Rabbi Berland began Kabbalas Shabbos (welcoming the Shabbos) with all the psalms, from “Lechu Neranenah” through “Mizmor LeDavid.”

Afterwards, he began singing “Lecha Dodi,” which lasted about 45 minutes. After that he said “K’gavna” (the Zohar passage recited on Friday night) and the Ma’ariv (evening prayer) of Friday night with singing and melodies.

At the conclusion of Ma’ariv, Rabbi Berland continued with the Shabbos night zemiros (Shabbos songs), as is his holy custom every Shabbos. He prolonged the singing of “Shalom Aleichem,” and in the midst of it he delivered a shiur to the holy tzaddik Rabbi Yehudah Sheinfeld shlit"a. After “Shalom Aleichem,” he said Kaddish, and the tefillah (prayer service) ended at 19:18, after two hours and 19 minutes.
