And Through It Your Kingdom Shall Be Exalted • Extensive Coverage of the Days of Rosh Hashanah in the Shadow of Rabbi Eliezer Berland shlit"a • Part 2

The Second Day of Rosh Hashanah in the Shadow of our teacher the Rav shlit"a ○ Prayers of the Holy Day ○ Words of the Living G-d ○ And They Shall Give You the Crown of Kingship

Our teacher the Rav shlit"a (may he live long and good days) began with the holy and deep melody that pours out and prepares the hearts for the second day of Rosh Hashanah - dina rafia (the 'relaxed' judgment). Just as the sound of the Shofar grows increasingly stronger, so too the second day of Rosh Hashanah in the presence of the Tzaddik (righteous leader) ascends and fills the world with an atmosphere of holiness and renewal.

Hashem, G-d of Israel, is King • The Night of the Second Day of Rosh Hashanah

Just as on the night when our community passed through judgment, so too now, only the holy voice of the Tzaddik was heard piercing the air of the world: 'Bless Hashem who is blessed'!!! The Maariv (evening) prayer was conducted in the Shuvu Banim melody with great vitality and immense joy. After Maariv, he again honored his grandson, Rabbi Aharon Zucker, to recite 'L'David Mizmor' (Psalm 24). After the prayer, our teacher the Rav shlit"a announced that he would go out for the Shacharit (morning) prayer at 4:30 AM, and to the sound of the song 'Uvekhein Tzaddikim' (And so the righteous...), he entered his holy home after fifty minutes of prayer on the second night of Rosh Hashanah.

I shall hope to G-d • The Second Day of Rosh Hashanah At 4:35 AM, the Rav entered for the Shacharit prayer from the balcony of his home, and for about fifty minutes, he prayed Shacharit with the community from 'Awaken now' until 'Hodu' (Give thanks). After a few minutes' break at 5:25 AM, our teacher the Rav shlit"a entered the hall of our Beit Medrash (study hall) and continued the prayer from 'Hodu' until 'HaMelech' (The King). At 'HaMelech,' as on the previous day, he honored Rabbi Naftali Zucker to lead the prayers at the amud (prayer stand). The coronation itself was marked by our teacher the Rav shlit"a roaring with great power: 'HAMELCH' (THE KING)!!! After the Amidah (silent prayer), the attendant Rabbi Naftali Zucker continued as the cantor. The Shacharit prayer of the second day lasted about an hour and twenty minutes until 7:57 AM. Then the Torah reading began, and with the opening of the Ark, he recited the Thirteen Attributes of Mercy. Our teacher the Rav shlit"a was honored with the aliyah (Torah honor) of our holy Rebbe Nachman—the fourth aliyah. After the aliyah, our teacher the Rav shlit"a stated that he was fulfilling the obligation for all our community members who flew to Uman by reciting the 'HaGomel' blessing (the blessing of gratitude for surviving a journey).

Hashem His G-d is With Him, and the Blast of the King is Within Him • Shofar Blowing and the Musaf Prayer

After the Torah reading, our teacher the Rav shlit"a again honored the Baal Tokea (shofar blower), Rabbi Yosef Shor, to ascend the holy platform. Our teacher the Rav shlit"a called out the order of the Shofar blasts for him with great spiritual awakening, being careful to say the 'Yehi Ratzon' (May it be Your will) prayer between each set of blasts. At the conclusion of the blasts, our teacher the Rav shlit"a sent the Baal Tokea, Rabbi Yosef Shor, to lead the 'Hineni He-Ani MiMa'as' (Behold, I am impoverished in deeds) prayer. It is worth noting that the aspect of dina rafia (relaxed judgment) was strongly felt; there was great joy in all the melodies and songs. During the singing of 'Gather our dispersed' and 'Bring us to Zion,' both sections in Musaf were sung with immense vitality. The Rav shlit"a turned toward the crowd and enlivened the public with his holy movements, singing 'Oh, gather our dispersed from among the nations, and assemble our scattered from the ends of the earth...'. Thus, the sections of Malchuyot (Kingship), Zichronot (Remembrances), and Shofrot (Shofar blasts) were all conducted in the stirring Breslov style with all the melodies: 'And all shall come to serve You...', the awakening during 'Unetanneh Tokef' (Let us tell the power), and the singing of 'There is no limit to Your years' with immense enthusiasm! Ah, it is difficult to translate the great light and awakening that occurred during these prayers into pen and parchment! Just as on the first day, so too on the second day, our teacher the Rav shlit"a stood for long hours throughout the entire prayer, and even exerted himself to prostrate during 'Aleinu L'Shabeach.' After the conclusion of the prayer, unlike the first day, the Rav shlit"a performed Kiddush (sanctification over wine) reciting 'Blow the Shofar on the new moon...', gave a short lesson, and said that now is the Fiftieth Gate and the moment of Geulah (Redemption). He blessed everyone with ten sons and ten daughters for zera shel kayama (viable offspring). At 6:13 PM, our teacher the Rav shlit"a went out for the Mincha (afternoon) prayer of the second day of Rosh Hashanah and the eve of the Holy Shabbat. During the singing in this prayer as well, our teacher the Rav shlit"a approached as the cantor and blended the Shuvu Banim style with the Breslov style with indescribable sweetness and pleasantness. After the Amidah, our teacher the Rav shlit"a began Kabbalat Shabbat (welcoming the Sabbath) into Shabbat Shuvah, Parshat Ha'azinu, with the order of Hiskashrus (spiritual connection to the Tzaddik) as he does every single Shabbat!
