"Because of the Hundred Cries that Sisera's Mother Cried, We Need a Hundred Shofar Blasts" • The Daily Lesson from the Gaon and Tzaddik Rabbi Eliezer Berland shlit"a

Presented before you is the full daily lesson as delivered by our teacher, the Rav, Rabbi Eliezer Berland shlit"a (may he live long and good days) – yesterday after the Maariv (evening) prayer, Tuesday, the conclusion of the fast of the 17th of Tammuz, Parshas Pinchas:

"In the north and in the south, everything [the security situation] is because not all the girls are lengthening their skirts. Every girl from the age of six needs to lengthen her skirt to the ankle and sew up any slit, or lengthen the skirt. Because... and everyone needs to say ninety Amens and four Kaddishes and four Kedushas and ten Kaddishes and a hundred Berachos (blessings), each and every person. And now we learned about the daughter of Jephthah who brought the knife to her father, and then the knife dripped blood, and the blood entered all the waters in the world. Therefore, during the Tekufah (seasonal turning point) of Teves, it is forbidden to drink the water from the taps at that exact second. And every girl needs to know that she should be either a principal or a teacher. She has forty-five days to teach all the material: algebra, mathematics, geometry. And to know all the calculations that Rashi mentions in Chapter 24, Verse 3, 'like them and like them a hundred times.' This results in: two [four], eight, sixteen, thirty-two, sixty-four, one hundred and twenty-eight, two hundred and fifty-six, five hundred and twelve, one thousand and twenty-four. After that, [by doubling] twenty times, it already reaches a million. At thirty, it reaches a billion; at forty, it reaches a thousand billion; at fifty, it reaches a million billion; at sixty, it comes out to a trillion—eighteen zeros. At seventy, it's a thousand trillion; at eighty, it's a million trillion; at ninety, it's a billion trillion. When you reach a hundred—a hundred times two—it's already a thousand billion trillion, which is thirty zeros. When you reach one hundred and eighty, it's already fifty-four zeros. One hundred and ninety is already a thousand trillion trillion trillion. And when you reach two hundred, it's already a million trillion trillion trillion. When you reach two hundred and ten, it's a billion trillion trillion trillion. When you reach two hundred and twenty, then we are already at a thousand billion trillion trillion trillion. And after that, at two hundred and thirty, we reach a million billion trillion trillion trillion, which is already sixty-nine zeros. When we reach 'Kad' (the jug of Rebecca), if it were written ten times 'Kad' (numerical value 24), then we would reach seventy-two zeros, which is a trillion trillion trillion trillion. We did all these calculations in ten seconds. Every girl needs to know how to calculate this and know the width: that the circumference is always three times the width, but not exactly—3.14. So if it's ten centimeters, it's 31.4; twenty is 62.8; and if we reach thirty centimeters wide, then we reach ninety, forty-two. This is the Name of MB (42), which is the secret of Yael who went with the tent peg. 'And the mother of Sisera wailed'—therefore we need a hundred Shofar blasts because she cried a hundred cries. She saw it on the screen. They had screens more sophisticated than today's; she saw that she [Yael] was coming with the tent peg. 'And the mother of Sisera wailed'—she looked down, she cried a hundred cries because Sisera was late in coming; therefore, we need a hundred blasts. Every girl needs to calculate the width and the circumference. And to know how to reach the 'seventy and leftovers' (shiyurim)—every girl must know. All of this is written in the MaHarit, Responsum 6; there he performs all the calculations. The MaHarit in Responsum 6 does all the calculations exactly, how to reach the seventy and leftovers. We learn this from the courtyard of the Mishkan (Tabernacle). How large was the courtyard of the Mishkan? Fifty by a hundred. How much is fifty times a hundred? Five thousand. Extract the square root—every girl needs to know how to extract a square root. Every girl has a higher IQ than a boy. Every girl—a thirteen-year-old girl has a higher IQ than a boy. Every girl should be either a teacher... let there be a thousand teachers, a thousand principals, a thousand girls in every seminary. Then a million girls will return in Teshuvah (repentance) and there will be the complete Geulah (Redemption) speedily in our days, Amen!"
