Great Joy on the Release of Our Teacher, the Esteemed Tzaddik Rabbi Eliezer Berland shlit"a

A year of tribulations has passed for our teacher, the esteemed tzaddik Rabbi Eliezer Berland shlit"a, and his entire community, students, and supporters who awaited and hoped for this sweet moment. A year ago, soldiers arrived in the early morning and arrested the Rav shlit"a during a Gemara lesson he was giving to hundreds of students present with him. The arrest was harsh and brutal, accompanied by the throwing of stun grenades and beatings of young men and women, while children who came for prayer witnessed the entire event. The police could have handled this in a much simpler way that would not leave scars, but chose this difficult path, Hashem knows why.

Our teacher Rav Berland shlit"a was imprisoned without any wrongdoing on his part. In an interview conducted with his lawyer Amit Hadad after the release decision, he stated unequivocally: "It was forbidden to imprison Rav Berland."

Indeed, the conditions of release are very harsh, but still, the conditions in which our teacher the Rav shlit"a was held over the past year were unbearable for any human being, all the more so for a tzaddik over 84 years old, who suffers from severe health issues.
