SO, WHAT DOES HASHEM DO?

He trips a person up, makes him a metzora (leper), makes him fail in [the test of speaking] lashon hara, or makes him fail by thinking that he can’t get up for chatzot anymore, or do hitbodedut (personal prayer) any more.

He trips him up, and now he can start to rise up again, anew.

Rabbi Simcha Bunim of Pesicha says that when you start to rise up again, remember what you were before. When you are elevated, remember your lowliness.

Why do they make a person fall down?
