During Bein HaZmanim One Studies Double • The Daily Lesson from the Gaon and Tzaddik Rabbi Eliezer Berland shlit"a

Before you is a summary of the daily lesson as delivered by our teacher, the Rav, Rabbi Eliezer Berland shlit"a - after the Maariv (evening) prayer, Sunday night, the 2nd of Nissan, Parshas Vayikra

For the boys, the "big vacation" (intersession) begins only on Pesach (the lesson was delivered before the Pesach break); in all the seminaries, it started on Thursday, as well as in the Kollel Hora'ah (institute for rabbinic rulings) and Choshen Mishpat (civil law study). The boys need to complete eight pages of Gemara (Talmud) every day, and the girls the Book of Tehillim (Psalms); this is what the vacation is for—the Chazon Ish says that the [regular study] time is preparation for the vacation.

During the vacation, it is seen what you did the whole time; if he [truly] studied, then he studies during the vacation as well.

Now we must pray that the hostages return, that their Gehennom (hell) should end. The Shin Bet (Security Service) planned everything; it is a real coup, they wanted Bibi [Netanyahu] to fall. Every day another handbreadth and another handbreadth is revealed. They fired the Chief of Staff; everyone was a partner in this coup to topple the government of the religious and the right wing.

We wanted the girls to be in the seminaries and the young men in the Yeshiva; now they are in Gan Eden (Paradise). Everyone needs to study eight pages of Gemara. At six-thirty is the Netz (sunrise); during Chol HaMoed (the intermediate days of the festival), we hope the Rav will pray with you because there are no Yeshivas or seminaries, so it's possible to pray until nine. The girls say Tehillim and Likutey Halachos. Everyone should study [the laws of] "Blessings on Fruit," section 5. All this is about Pesach Sheni (the Second Passover); why is it that only for Pesach is there a "Second," why isn't there a second Yom Kippur, a second Succos, or a second Rosh Hashanah? Reb Noson explains all of this; one must know it. When did the Ananei HaKavod (Clouds of Glory) begin? On the 15th of Tishrei. And they departed after the Sin of the Golden Calf; the women did not sin—the men tore the earrings off them along with their ears. Yaakov Melamed was an inspector, so he would tear down the posters; now there is a Haredi neighborhood there. Every girl needs to be a seminary principal, to know English, to be a manager—then they won't kidnap girls or abuse girls, nor the soldiers whom they put red-hot skewers into. The whole world is full of protests, shouting "robbers" against the Haredim, but when it was the Arabs, they took fifty-four billion. Everyone at the left-wing protests receives a hundred shekels for every protest; it all comes from America. Now one must know what is happening in the world. The Chazon Ish says that during Bein HaZmanim (intersession), one must study twice as much. The Rebbe [Nachman] says seriously that "my matter will spread in the hearts of the Lithuanians and the minds of the Poles"; when Bein HaZmanim arrives, one must be like the "Lithuanians" (diligent students). Now Bein HaZmanim is thirty—twenty-five days. Seven pages times twenty-five days is one hundred and seventy-five pages, and until the 22nd of Nissan, it is one hundred and eighty-nine.
