Frightening: He Mocked the Kidney Surgery Rabbi Berland Underwent, and Within a Week His Wife Fell Critically Ill with Double Kidney Failure
About six months ago, we brought you a frightening message from R' Elazar Mordechai Menzer shlit"a, the holy master of salvations who is accustomed to miracles. R' Avraham Chai zt"l (the Kabbalist from Pardes Katz) and many other tzaddikim testified that he is one of the great 36 hidden righteous ones of our generation.
In a message from Heaven, the Tzaddik Rabbi Elazar Menzer shlit"a said, "It is written that shaming one's fellow in public is like three severe transgressions for which one must die rather than commit (murder, illicit relations, and idolatry). From now on, anyone who opens their mouth against Rabbi Berland shlit"a is a willful sinner and should know that he is playing with fire. The words of the Mishnah in Avos (2:10) will be fulfilled in him: 'And be careful with their coals (of Torah scholars) so that you do not get burned, for their bite is the bite of a fox, their sting is the sting of a scorpion, their hiss is the hiss of a serpent, and all their words are like fiery coals.'"

"Even one who only thinks bad thoughts against Rabbi Berland shlit"a should know that this thought is like a thought of idolatry, and he must use all his strength to drive these thoughts away. And one who has already spoken against Rabbi Berland shlit"a has no remedy, unless he goes to two trustworthy Jews and reveals to them that he takes upon himself that when the Rav shlit"a is released, with Hashem's help, he will go to him to appease him until he hears from him that he forgives him." These were the words of Rabbi Menzer then.
Since then, terrible stories have reached us regarding events and occurrences that befell those who continued to speak against and persecute our Teacher, the Gaon and Tzaddik Rabbi Eliezer Berland shlit"a, and did not heed the message from Heaven conveyed by Rabbi Menzer.
Less than two months ago, the Kabbalist Rabbi Yehuda Sheinfeld shlit"a recounted, "Yesterday, I went up with a very great Torah scholar whose wife was stricken with the illness in her head to the home of the holy Milkman, the Kabbalist Tzaddik Rabbi Chaim Cohen shlit"a. He wept to me to come with him to the Milkman's daughter; I didn't want to take him, but I saw he was literally begging for his life."

"That Torah scholar told the Milkman that his wife had contracted the illness in her head and now needs to be flown to the USA. 'There is no cure for her affliction in the Land [of Israel], what should I do, honorable Rav?' he asked him!"
The Milkman answered firmly, "Tell me, did you speak about Rav Lazer (Rabbi Eliezer Berland shlit"a)? Did you write anything against Rav Lazer? Did you do anything against him?"

That Torah scholar literally trembled from the sternness of the holy Milkman and finally asked: "What does this have to do with Rabbi Berland? Why are you mixing this with my wife's condition?"
The Milkman repeated his questions firmly: "Did you speak or did you not speak? Did you sign or did you not sign?"
"I spoke and I signed," he answered.
"Then there is no cure for your wife," the Milkman answered him and continued. "And I don't know if there is any tikkun (rectification) at all for what you did. Turn the world over, so that everyone who heard you and read what you distributed might hear and change their opinion in favor of Rav Lazer." The Milkman continued, "And then maybe, maybe there will be some miracle. One does not speak about Rav Lazer, do you hear?"
It is not for nothing that we repeat these words; terrible stories are reaching us that, for various reasons, we cannot yet publish. However, in order to cause someone to have thoughts of teshuvah (repentance) and perhaps thereby save someone who is erring in good faith after the instigators, we bring you the following terrible story.
The narrator is Nathan, a business owner from Beitar Illit. These are his harsh words: "Last week, a customer entered my business and told me a terrible story that occurred in the Kollel where he studies in Beitar. He relates that one of the avreichim in the Kollel, one well-known in the city of Beitar, came in and started speaking slander against Rabbi Berland shlit"a. This happened after the difficult kidney surgery the Rav shlit"a underwent, and that individual was not afraid to mock the Rav shlit"a, may Hashem save us."

"Avreichim who were there came to him and warned him that it is forbidden to speak against tzaddikim, but he did not calm down and said that the Rav shlit"a deserved everything he went through, may Hashem save us. Not a week passed, and the wife of that speaker fell ill with a severe disease and both her kidneys literally collapsed. That speaker was forced to donate one kidney, while her condition remains critical despite the kidney donation."
"The story is amazing because before this, his wife had nothing wrong with her, and literally right after he spoke about the Tzaddik, his wife fell ill. We hope that this person will wake up, and the sooner the better," adds Nathan in pain.
"One must be careful not to speak about the Tzaddik in any way; one must be careful even of a bad thought. Our Teacher, Rabbi Berland shlit"a, is a tzaddik and forgives the affront to his honor, but Heaven does not forgive, as the Gaon and Kabbalist Rabbi David Stern shlit"a said, 'This is all good for Rabbi Berland, but the Holy One, Blessed be He, does not take into account that Rabbi Berland forgives the affront to his honor; He will put to death all those who dispute [him] with a strange death. They are doing him an injustice that cannot be estimated or described. I do not know why such a pure and holy tzaddik who has no sin goes through this. Those who do this to him are cursed wicked people; they will not merit to be in the Geulah and will go through several levels of Gehinnom. I do not envy them for what they will go through.'"
It must be understood that, Heaven forbid, there is no schadenfreude here. Rather, we are fulfilling our duty and warning that it is forbidden to speak about the Tzaddik, as Chazal said, "And be careful with their coals," and as the great Tzaddikim of our generation warn.
