Frightening - Listen: Spoke About the Esteemed Tzaddik Rabbi Eliezer Berland
shlit"a and Developed Throat Nodules
If the many miraculous stories about our teacher, the Gaon and Tzaddik Rabbi Eliezer Berland shlit"a, which have been revealed recently with even greater intensity and strength, were not enough, read the following story. Rabbi N.T. is a Litvish avreich who studies in one of the most famous Litvish yeshivas in Jerusalem—some say the best in the world—who approached us with the story of his chavruta in the kollel in order to present his account.
"Why doesn't your chavruta call us himself?" we asked Rabbi N.T. before he continued his story. "The doctor ordered my friend not to utter a word from his mouth for two whole weeks; he wrote a letter, and I am sending it to you. In the meantime, he commanded me to publicize his story in the hope that it will lead to his healing and rectify his actions." In fact, we got a little ahead of ourselves; this is how Rabbi N.T. began the story.
"We study in a very important Litvish yeshiva in Jerusalem. Following the terrible and malicious publications against the tzaddik, Rav Berland, these things unfortunately began to trickle into my friend's heart. I argued against them, but he said: 'If there are such publications, we must not be naive; perhaps there is some truth in them.' From thought to action, my chavruta began to discuss these matters with various people, but it did not take long before my friend began to feel great pain in his throat."
"With no other choice, my friend turned to an Ear, Nose, and Throat doctor who immediately diagnosed: 'You have nodules in your throat; I forbid you to speak for two weeks.' My friend left the doctor ashamed; after all, before he spoke about the Rav shlit"a, he felt excellent, and suddenly, once he began to suspect, nodules grew in his throat immediately. Only a blind person would not connect the two. It is understood that my friend immediately took the matter to heart and turned back from his misguided thoughts, but he knew that the complete teshuvah (repentance) would be by publicizing his story and bringing merit to the masses—after all, many others can be saved from the fire of controversy as well."
It is worth noting that these words reach us during the week of Parshat Korach, so we saw fit to bring words spoken by Rabbi Moshe Tzanani to the holy group at the 'Shuvu Banim' yeshiva, the yeshiva of the Rav shlit"a. May it be the will of our Father in Heaven that we learn a lesson and understand the power of a tzaddik.
