From the Teachings of the Gaon and Tzaddik Rabbi Eliezer Berland shlit"a – Scenes from the Holy Journeys of the Tzaddik

From the words of our teacher, the holy Gaon and Tzaddik, Rabbi Eliezer Berland shlit"a (may he live long and good days)
"Today is the yahrtzeit (anniversary of passing) of Rabbi Yaakov Herman zt"l (of blessed memory), who was the only Charedi (ultra-Orthodox) Jew in America at that time, when everyone else had already become Sabbath desecrators and were without peyos (sidelocks). All the great leaders of Israel would stay at his home [when they arrived in the USA], including Rabbi Baruch Ber Leibowitz, Rabbi Elchanan Wasserman, and others."
"When Rabbi Elchanan was in America, he told a wealthy man—one of his former students—that he had come for a button. The wealthy man said, 'It's impossible that you came all the way from Europe for a button.' He answered him, 'And did you come from the Upper World just to do business?'... and in this way, he brought him back in teshuvah (repentance)."
"The Meraglim (spies) could have conquered the Land of Israel by themselves, because the gentiles are nothing—'and all the nations are as nothing before You.'"
"Rabbi Chiya was walking with Rabbi Shimon the son of Rabbi Yehuda and they saw a troop of Romans. Rabbi Chiya said to Rabbi Shimon that they are like flies. Rabbi Yehuda said to them, 'They aren't even flies; they are nothing.'"
"For the gentiles have no true existence; they only take all the transgressions."
"The Meraglim (spies) should have conquered the entire Land of Israel, just as two Jews conquered Jazer."
"The Meraglim (spies) arrived and saw that they were burying thousands of dead people there, because they used to bury their dead in the courtyards of the houses. Then Iyov (Job) died, and whenever one of their leaders died, they would bring everyone out and bury them next to him."
"The minister Chaim Farhi told the king that the last bead missing from the necklace he brought him could be obtained in one go, and thus he forced the Sheikh who had imprisoned the children to release them."
