Gathering of the Young Men’s Chaburah of the Yeshivah Ketanah at His Home, with the Participation of the Gaon HaTzaddik Rabbi Eliezer Berland shlit"a

The young men of the “Bnei HaNe’urim” chaburah, led by R’ Nachman Haas הי"ו, gathered and came this past Thursday night— the night of 18 Tammuz— to the home of The Rav, Rabbi Eliezer Berland shlit"a, for a one-of-a-kind special chaburah gathering, especially for the members of the Yeshivah Ketanah chaburah
At first, the bochurim entered the home of The Rav shlit"a and began singing heartfelt songs of awakening, with very great spiritual elevation. After a few minutes, The Rav shlit"a entered and signaled for them to continue with the heartfelt songs. After twenty-five minutes of heartfelt singing together with The Rav shlit"a, The Rav opened with “living words of Hashem” for twelve minutes. Below is a summary from the shiur: At the beginning of the shiur, The Rav shlit"a addressed the well-known question in Parshas Pinchas: how could it be that the halachah was hidden from Moshe Rabbeinu, and only Pinchas remembered the halachah of “one who has relations with an Aramean—zealots strike him”? The Rav also spoke about Serach bas Asher, who is mentioned in the parshah. He also spoke about Zimri ben Salu, who was called Shaul ben HaKena’anis, and he brought that this was Shaul HaMelech. From there he went on to explain that even though Shaul was such an exalted neshamah, with no “breakage” at all, he did not wait for Shmuel—and because of that, he lost an eternal kingship. Later in the shiur, The Rav strengthened the bochurim to get up early, and he explained what Rechavam said: “My father disciplined you with whips, and I with scorpions.” Is there a leader with any sense in his head, who wants the people to choose him as a beloved king, who would speak like that? Rather, the meaning is that in truth everyone wants discipline; everyone wants a yeshivah where they get up on time—and this is what Rechavam established. Toward the end of the shiur, The Rav shlit"a spoke about the sale of Yosef, and explained why from the time of the sale Yosef did not meet his father again except twice—because if so, Yaakov would have commanded him to reveal what happened in the sale. And if Yaakov had known that the brothers sold Yosef, they would have died from Yaakov’s strictness, as we find with Rachel regarding the terafim. And he said that since Serach bas Asher was not afraid, and even though she knew that with one moment of Yaakov’s strictness toward her she could die, she gave herself over to bring joy to Yaakov with the news, “Yosef is still alive”—she entered Gan Eden with her body.
