Ha’azinu: An Exposure from the Milkman’s Courtyard — Decrees Are Issued from Above, and the Gaon HaTzaddik Rabbi Eliezer Berland shlit"a Cancels Them

“The Gaon HaTzaddik Rabbi Eliezer Berland shlit"a does not take into account that he is going to be humiliated; for Tzaddikim, the main thing is to do the will of Hashem. R’ Chaim Cohen shlit"a, the Milkman, warned many times about things that were going to happen, because from Heaven they issue decrees and reveal them to rare, select Tzaddikim so that they will warn the public. This is an extremely great responsibility. Once, when I was part of the Milkman’s group, the work was difficult—constantly sweetening harsh judgments and canceling decrees. Whoever merits this is experiencing something tremendous, but these are certainly not easy lives—lives lived for the sake of Am Yisrael. It is not easy.” A personal testimony from Rabbi Meir Shlomo from within the Milkman’s courtyard.

And indeed, they asked the Milkman: ‘You are always announcing things, and they don’t happen’?”
The Milkman, R’ Chaim Cohen shlit"a, answered: “What can I do? There is one Tzaddik called Rabbi Berland who is constantly canceling the decrees.”
“Do you understand? Rabbi Berland—the one sitting in detention—he sees the decrees and cancels them. The Tzaddik who cancels decrees also makes use of the teshuvah that the public does: people are shaken and awakened, and through that the Rav shlit"a has the power to cancel decrees. Avraham Avinu warned about drawing close to the Molech, and then suddenly, at the Akeidah of his son, he is going to do the very opposite of what he warned against all his life. But Tzaddikim do not care; they do the will of Hashem without thinking about how it will look in people’s eyes.
