"Hashem Swore to the Month of Cheshvan that the Third Beis HaMikdash Will Descend During It" • The Daily Lesson from the Gaon and Tzaddik, Rabbi Eliezer Berland shlit"a

Before you is a summary of topics from the daily lesson as delivered by our teacher, the Rav, Rabbi Eliezer Berland shlit"a—yesterday after the Maariv (evening) prayer, Thursday night, the eve of the 30th of Tishrei, Rosh Chodesh (the New Month) of MarCheshvan, Parshas Noach:

In two more days is the molad (the birth of the new moon), and then the Beis HaMikdash (Holy Temple) of fire will descend. Hashem swore to the month of Cheshvan that the Third Beis HaMikdash would descend during it, because they finished the First Temple in Cheshvan but waited until the following Tishrei to dedicate it, in order to celebrate the yahrtzeit (anniversary of passing) of the Patriarchs—the "Month of the Mighty" (Yerach HaEisanim). At that time [of the dedication], they did not fast on Yom Kippur; they ate. And on Pesach, instead of eating matzah, during the time of Mordechai, they fasted. The army requested that people not enter Shechem (Nablus) with private vehicles; there will be an entry every week and then every day for Shuvu Banim. Now the Third Temple will be built and the girls will fly in the air. In the First and Second Temples, the girls from Tzippori had only one desire—for the Beis HaMikdash. They would fly to the Beis HaMikdash and return before their dough had time to rise. Women have no sins; for women, everything is atoned for in a second. The Gemara in Bava Batra says that if a son is born, he receives a maneh (a silver coin), but if a daughter, two hundred. Rav Chisda says this is because the daughter is a helper; she bakes, she cooks, she takes care of the children, she learns, and she progresses. Every girl needs to be a manager; Hashem gave her a mind a million times greater than a man's. The advantage of a son is only that he learns Gemara. A daughter needs to learn to be a manager, to earn degrees, and to bring twenty thousand shekels a month home so she can give tzedakah (charity) and not live off handouts. Then she will be able to marry off all the grandchildren and great-grandchildren. All the shefa (abundance) comes through the daughter. Her soul is from the Sefirah (Divine Emanation) of Malchus (Kingship). Because if a son does not learn, he throws stones—"You sit and speak against your brother; you slander your own mother's son." Rebbe Nosson [of Nemirov] knew someone who spoke against the Savraner and the Shpoler [Rebbes]; Rebbe Nosson told him, "In the end, you will speak against Rebbe Nachman." Whoever throws stones at Arabs will eventually throw them at a Jew, and at the Rav. The wife of On ben Peles bought him a bottle of champagne, and he fell asleep for twenty-four hours. She told him, "Whoever disputes the Tzaddik is exempt from Tefillin (phylacteries); sleep and do not dispute the Tzaddik!" Women are not confused by anything—not by Korach and not by the Sin of the Golden Calf. The men said it was a "Ma'aseh Merkavah" (Divine Chariot work), but the women were not enticed. Aaron told them to take the rings from the women because he knew they wouldn't agree, but the husbands tore their ears off along with the rings. Therefore, women have Rosh Chodesh [as a holiday] and are forbidden to do laundry [on it]. No woman died in the desert, but because they didn't guard their husbands who went to dance in the [idolatrous] dances, they remained widows. The wife is a wall for her husband so he won't be enticed by all kinds of nonsense. There was a story with Rabbi Chaim Farhi regarding a Sheikh who claimed that every Friday he flew to Mecca. In reality, he was smoking a narghile (hookah) in the basement. The Jewish children would disturb him through the chimney, so he imprisoned them. Rabbi Chaim Farhi brought the Pasha a string of beads that was an odd number, which is not considered [complete] among the Muslims, and told him that the last bead was in Mecca and that he should ask the Sheikh "who flies to Mecca every Friday" to bring it. The Pasha called the Sheikh and requested it. The Sheikh understood this was all because of the children's imprisonment and begged Rabbi Chaim Farhi to give him the last stone and release the children, promising he would never touch a child again; and there was "light and joy for the Jews." Mashiach will come at the time of the molad (birth of the new moon), and there will be the complete Geulah (Redemption) speedily in our days!
