Hisbodedus Is the Highest Level Above All • Exclusive Documentation of Rabbi Eliezer Berland shlit"a in Hisbodedus in the Morasha Field

About two weeks ago, on the 7th of Kislev, The Rav, Rabbi Eliezer Berland shlit"a, arrived in the city of Bnei Brak. First, he entered for a visit to the sick with the President of the Council of Torah Sages, HaGaon Rabbi Shimon Baadani shlit"a, and afterward he continued to a visit with the Spinka Rebbe. Finally, he arrived at the wedding of his nephew’s daughter, as was first published here. In the midst of it all, The Rav, Rabbi Eliezer Berland shlit"a, came to pray Minchah—“And Yitzchak went out to converse in the field”—in the legendary field: Morasha.

Much is known about the Hisbodedus of The Rav, Rabbi Eliezer Berland shlit"a, in the Morasha field—an avodah that continues until this very day. About fifty years ago, The Rav shlit"a would go out to do Hisbodedus among the orchards, and he would take a great sum of money from his pocket to pay every day for taxis, so that hundreds of ba’alei teshuvah and avreichim could go out to do Hisbodedus in the field.

In an interview after the visit to Bnei Brak, conducted on the Breslov Chassidim information line (9148*), The Rav’s grandson, R’ Dov Zucker, may he live long, related that when The Rav shlit"a arrived at the place, he began speaking about the greatness of Hisbodedus that had taken place there. The Rav’s attendants left him alone for a few minutes of Hisbodedus, and after several minutes he called them over and asked them to walk around among the trees. First, The Rav shlit"a revealed a small glimpse of his Hisbodedus from decades ago, telling that once, because he was so deeply immersed and cleaving to Hashem in Hisbodedus, he did not return for the Seder night. This was unusual, because The Rav shlit"a never missed the Seder in his home—he would always appear as soon as the night began. After several hours had passed from the start of the night and he still had not arrived, his family went to ask Maran the Steipler whether it was permitted to call the police, lest there be concern for his life. The Rav shlit"a now related that a minute before they called the police, The Rav shlit"a appeared at the doorway of his home and conducted the Seder. When his grandson asked whether there was a particular spot in the Morasha field where The Rav would pray regularly, The Rav shlit"a answered that there is not a single tree in the field that he did not pray beside.

Afterward, The Rav, Rabbi Eliezer Berland shlit"a, recited Kiddush Levanah. As he walked among the trees, The Rav shlit"a sang the verses of Kiddush Levanah, and then continued on with his holy journey in the city of Bnei Brak.
