Sadly, many have already gotten used to the idea that when it comes to the holy Tzaddik Rabbi Berland shlit"a, people can say anything and everything. Every day, depraved individuals invent malicious rumors against the Rav shlit"a. In the past, many of their claims were already proven to be lies—but these wicked people are not searching for truth. Their goal is to smear the name of the Tzaddik, saying to themselves: “We will spread filth, and it will take root in people’s hearts,” Hashem yishmor.

Here is a clear opportunity to see the cunning methods of those who harm the Jewish people. After rumors spread, Rabbi Shmuel Eliezer Stern shlit"a of Rav Wosner’s Beis Din said that these lowlifes are claiming in his name that the Rav shlit"a “permitted” several women to return to their husbands. And as if that were not enough, they added another claim: that the reason Rabbi Yaakov Meir Shechter signed against the Rav shlit"a was because Rabbi Stern spoke with him. Rabbi Chaim Reicher shlit"a—like everyone else, shocked by this factory of lies—personally reached out to clarify the matter. Here is the transcript of the conversation.

Rabbi Chaim (Yiddish): “Is everything calm with Rabbi Berland, or not yet?”

Rabbi Stern’s reply: “I have no share or connection with everything they are saying about Rabbi Berland. They took my name and did evil and injustice. They relied on some nonsense and foolishness. I have no share or connection to any discussions—neither in a beis din nor in accepting testimony.”

Rabbi Chaim continues to ask: “No—I’m asking because they (the persecutors) actually said that you accepted testimony, and also that Rabbi Stern called Rabbi Meir Shechter.”

Rabbi Stern’s unequivocal response: “I never called, and to the best of my memory I never spoke with him even once. In short, it’s all just empty chatter—without even the slightest trace of truth.”

These words are difficult to absorb. This is only a tiny drop being exposed from within a poisonous and evil campaign being waged against the holy Tzaddik Rabbi Eliezer Berland shlit"a. And the question cries out: What about all the lies that seep in every single day? What about all the Chillul Hashem that has been caused throughout this time? How many Jews could have returned in teshuvah, yet instead are being pushed away from the Tzaddik because of the false filth these people throw into the air? And most importantly—what about the pain of the Shechinah?!
