How Do We Keep Teenagers and Children from Falling Away? — The Gaon HaTzaddik Rabbi Eliezer Berland shlit"a

The daily chizuk from The Rav, the honor of the holy sanctity of Rabbi Eliezer Berland shlit"a, speaking about the path of how to protect teenagers and children so they won’t fall and abandon the way of holiness

There are so many teens dropping off today—and why are teens dropping off?

Because people don’t know how to speak to their hearts!

People in the audience ask The Rav Rabbi Berland: How do you speak to them?

The Rav shlit"a answers: You need to understand that this was the mistake of Noach. As it says in Sanhedrin, Noach would sell harsh words like sinews. In the Midrash it is written that he didn’t rebuke at all—but he did rebuke.

Noach rebuked his generation that they need to make a Melaveh Malkah—that in every synagogue they should make a Melaveh Malkah—then all the young men from that neighborhood and that street will come.

You need to make many Melaveh Malkah gatherings—lots of tefillah with niggunim. That is what draws young people: only tefillah with niggunim.

The whole point is to empower Jews—to shine light for them, to give them chiyus, chiyus—so that each person will have chiyus.

If you give a child chiyus, he won’t become secular. A child needs chiyus. A child needs zemiros sung with him, and stories told to him.
