In Honor of the Yahrzeit of the Admor of Kaliv zt"l
An Interview on the Special Connection with Rav Berland shlit"a

In honor of the day of the Hillula of the Admor of Kaliv zt"l, whose yahrtzeit falls on the 23rd of Nissan, we return to the special interview conducted on the Global Breslov Line (9148*) with Rabbi Chaim Binyamin Kirschenbaum, may he live and be well - The Admor of Kaliv used to say: "During the Holocaust, the Nazis did not ask a Jew which party he belonged to."
The gabbai of the Admor of Kaliv and the one who was closest to him, Rabbi Chaim Binyamin Kirschenbaum, recounted - "The feeling after the Rebbe's passing is terrible and awful. On the Thursday night before Passover, the Rebbe appointed me as his messenger for the Bedikat Chametz (searching for leaven), and after the ten pieces were found, he performed the Bitul Chametz. On Shabbat at Mincha, he was still called up for an aliyah to the Torah, but his condition continued to deteriorate."
"On the second day of Chol HaMoed, Rabbi Yitzchak Zilberstein visited him and told him that his face was shining. The Admor of Kaliv replied that they were already waiting for him Above. The Rebbe had such self-sacrifice for Ahavat Yisrael (love of Israel); he would say, 'During the Holocaust, the Nazis did not ask a Jew which party he belonged to.'"
"The Rebbe went to draw Jews closer in the kibbutzim. He went to Kibbutz Ein Gev, and they didn't understand what Chassidim were doing there. He told them he wanted to install a mezuzah for them, and that was truly the first mezuzah in the kibbutz. Afterward, he volunteered and built them a synagogue."
"The Rebbe tells that during the Holocaust, great heroes fell because they lacked faith, whereas 'Muselmen' (a common term among Jewish concentration camp prisoners during the Holocaust to describe a prisoner on the verge of death due to starvation) with faith survived and merited to ascend to the Land of Israel and establish faithful homes for Hashem. The Rebbe composed a song about this, that one must always instill faith in Hashem."

"The Admor of Kaliv had a very great connection with Rav Berland shlit"a. I heard with my own ears how, at the time Rav Berland visited the Admor of Kaliv at the Karlin study hall, he told him that he was adding 18 years to his life. This was a period when the Rebbe was ill, and Rav Berland told him he was adding 18 years to his life. These are not things that were told to me; these are things I heard with my own ears."
"The love and the connection that the Admor of Kaliv zt"l had with Rav Berland shlit"a—they first met in Jerusalem; Rav Berland would come to the celebrations of the House of Kaliv. The Admor would pray a lot for Rav Berland shlit"a; there are even letters about this. The prayers were especially frequent when Rav Berland was abroad. The Admor mentioned Rav Berland often for good; there was a very great connection between them."
Thus far are the words of the gabbai of the Admor of Kaliv and the one who was closest to him, Rabbi Chaim Binyamin Kirschenbaum.
