“I have nothing to say about the situation of the holy Gaon and Tzaddik Rabbi Eliezer Berland shlit"a, except what the Tzaddikim say—I heard this from many great Tzaddikim. We are speaking about a Jew who is holy of holies, who all his days is cleaving to Hashem. Who am I to tell it? We all see it; we have all seen it. If only I would have even a tiny fraction of the fraction of what The Rav shlit"a learned in Torah.” With pain, these words were said by Rabbi Yosef Berger shlit"a, the rabbi of King David’s Tomb.

No one can reach his attainments in Torah—his toil in Torah, his cleaving to Hashem, hours of prayer, of Hisbodedus. It is clear that something is happening here, only we do not know exactly what. But it is clear that this Jew, holy of holies, is carrying out actions connected to the Geulah of the People of Israel. It is clear that something is forming and taking shape with the People of Israel. Therefore, we must know that, with Hashem’s help, everything The Rav shlit"a is going through is for the sake of the holy People of Israel—even if there is now hester panim and we do not fully understand what is happening. There are evildoers who fabricate such terrible things about him, and it is clear to me that it is all lies and falsehood. For we must believe that every Jew is presumed kosher—and all the more so a Tzaddik whom we know spent all his days in Torah and avodah.

“We are absolutely forbidden to believe lashon hara—especially when, even by the natural course of things, it is clearly a lie. And those people who speak against The Rav shlit"a, and also those who opened a defiled hotline to speak against him—they are the sitra achra. This is the yetzer hara trying to cast doubt on Emunas Chachamim. What did we think—that Hashem would bring Moshiach without any test? Hashem is testing the People of Israel, testing to see who will cling to Emunas Chachamim. It is very easy to believe and to cleave to Torah scholars when everything is fine. The test is when people speak about them and try to cast doubt on Torah scholars—and despite everything, not to collapse, but to remain in Emunah.”

“Certainly there are things here that we do not understand, and therefore—rachmana litzlan for the one who speaks—Hashem is testing the People of Israel to see who will cling to Hashem despite all the humiliations. It is as clear to me as the midday sun that there are secrets here that we cannot understand right now, but certainly one day the truth will yet be revealed. We have nothing but to go with simple Emunah and to cleave to Torah scholars. We see this Jew, holy of holies, that even in prison he toils all day in Torah. We must take a lesson from this and cleave to the holy Torah, and try to imitate his Torah. Everyone who speaks is an agent of the yetzer hara, trying to inject poison and destruction into the People of Israel—inciting them away from the simple faith we received from generation to generation; inciting them not to believe in Torah scholars, in servants of Hashem. It is forbidden to believe lashon hara.”
