"Light is Torah" ◇ A Gathering of Chizuk (Strengthening) for Torah Learners in Our Holy Community

In the wake of the decrees against the Torah world, which loom over all yeshiva students and Torah learners in the Holy Land, a tremendous gathering was held in honor of the Torah and those who study it. This took place just before the holiday of Purim—the time when we re-accepted the Torah out of love.

The gathering took place on Wednesday night, the 9th of Adar, in our Beis Midrash at the "Ido HaNavi" synagogue. All the Torah learners of our holy community assembled there, with the participation of great and illuminating Rabbis shlit"a, led by our teacher and Rebbe, the Gaon and Tzaddik Rabbi Eliezer Berland shlit"a.

The event opened with strengthening words from Rabbi Yechezkel Rozmarin, an activist for the 'Gav Chazak' (Strong Backing) organization, who outlined the many challenges facing the participants and the important work the organization is doing. Following him, the Chassidic Rav, Rabbi Shmuel Aharon Weiss, an activist for 'Agudas Yisrael' who is deeply involved in this issue, took the stage. In his address, he praised the Torah learners of our holy community for their courage in standing firm against the threats and decrees looming over the Torah world, continuing to immerse themselves in Torah study without any fear. The Rabbis and other speakers took the stage one after another, strengthening the assembled learners with inspiring words about the supreme importance of studying the holy Torah, especially during times of trial.

A hush fell over the crowd as our teacher and Rebbe, Rabbi Berland shlit"a, ascended the stage. "Our generation is the generation of the greatest trials." With these words, the Rav shlit"a opened his holy address. For half an hour, his inspiring, fiery words echoed in the ears of the large crowd that had gathered to hear about the vital importance of studying the holy Torah, despite the decrees against the Torah world.

This tremendous gathering concluded with the distribution of a special gift by our teacher and Rebbe shlit"a, provided by the "Gav Chazak" organization, which works to support Torah learners. The gifts were given to those avreichim (married yeshiva students) who had been imprisoned for the "crime of studying Torah."
