Parshat Lech Lecha: Through Studying the Gemara, One Receives a New Mind - The Righteous Rabbi Eliezer Berland shlit"a

"Go forth from your land, from your birthplace, and from your father's house to the land that I will show you..... and I will make your name great"
"And I will make your name great" alludes to the study of the Shas, as "your name" in gematria is 360, and Shas in gematria is 360. One must know, if a person does not study Shas, then he has nothing, he lacks the image of God, he is not truly a person. The entire essence of a person is built from the study of the Shas, the whole person is only the Shas.
And this is what Hashem promised our forefather Avraham, "and I will make your name great," meaning that his descendants will engage in Torah and study Shas (your name), and only this is called completeness, as it is written "Happy are those whose way is perfect, who walk in the Torah of Hashem" (Psalms 119:1), completeness is only when a person studies Shas.
The Rebbe brings in Torah Aleph - "Know that through the Torah all prayers and requests are accepted, that we ask and pray, and the grace and importance of Israel is elevated and exalted before all who need it, both spiritually and materially." Only through the Torah are all prayers and requests accepted, everything a person sees that a prayer was not accepted, it is because he does not study enough Shas. All the grace and importance of Israel depends on those who study Shas, because the Torah is called "a beloved hind and a graceful doe," which bestows grace upon its learners, the Torah truly bestows grace upon a person.
A person comes home, if he has studied Torah, he merits grace, his wife sees that he has grace, the Divine Presence rests upon him, then there will be simcha (joy) in the home, but if he comes without Torah, without grace, broken, angry, then there is no simcha in that home.
And now, due to our many sins, the grace and importance of Israel has fallen, now the main importance is with the nations, with the wicked, and this is only for one reason, that they do not study Shas. "For an Israeli man must always look at the intellect of everything and connect himself to the wisdom and intellect in everything so that the intellect in everything will illuminate for him, for the intellect is a great light and illuminates for him in all his ways."
The true intellect is only the study of the Shas, beyond that there is no intellect in the world, what illuminates for a person and guides him is only the intellect. A person must see that the intellect will illuminate and go, illuminate and grow, as it is written "it goes and shines until the day is established." All of a person's work is only to increase the intellect, and as much as he increases his intellect and studies Shas, so he builds the Holy Temple.
If we want to build the Holy Temple, to hasten the redemption, we need to increase the intellect, increase the knowledge, as our sages said "anyone who has knowledge, it is as if the Holy Temple was built in his days" and as much as he increases the knowledge, the intellect, so he builds the Holy Temple, because the reason the Holy Temple was not built is because they do not study Shas in depth, today to build the house it is simple, just study Shas, the moment a person studies Shas the sitra achra will fall, and one must sharpen the intellect, the work of a person is to sharpen the intellect, to study Torah – to have a quick and sharp mind, an illuminating mind as our Rebbe says "it is a great mitzvah to sharpen the intellect" – says Chesed LeAvraham that there are 10 screens on the brain, 10 shells on the brain, and each one must remove the shells, polish them, clean them, and this is only through studying the Shas in depth and with insight.
A person must know that Breslov and Gemara are one thing, the point of Breslov is to follow what is written and not according to feelings and opinions and not according to what is convenient "go forth in the footsteps of the flock and graze your young goats by the dwellings of the shepherds," one must listen to the voice of the tzaddikim, the voice of the shepherds. If you are a Breslov chassid you must listen to Likutei Moharan – the first thing in Likutei Moharan (Torah Aleph) it is written that a person must have intellect, study Shas and only this is called completeness - happy are those whose way is perfect, who walk in the Torah of Hashem. A person must know that Breslov chassidut does not come, God forbid, to nullify any jot or tittle, any custom of the people of Israel, anything accepted among the people of Israel, it only comes to add more things, to add more fear of Heaven, more guarding of the eyes, more kedushah (holiness).
A person has heresy in his heart, he does not believe that Hashem stands before him every moment, what a person does not focus on in prayer, does not feel that Hashem stands before him, it is because he has heresy in his heart, that he does not believe that Hashem is present. When a person speaks with a friend, he is careful to think about every word he utters, especially if it is a king, he is more careful not to be caught in any mistake, God forbid, in anything illogical he might say, when he speaks with a friend he does not speak randomly, he can speak for 10 hours because he sees before him "a person" with a face, hands, feet.
And Hashem, living and existing, is before us and we do not feel Him, this shows that we have no intellect, we have no mind, that a person does not feel Hashem, and does not focus in prayer, it is only because he lacks intellect, just as there are diseases where people lose their intellect and do not recognize their parents, so too if a person has no intellect, no Torah, he does not recognize his Father and Mother, which is the Holy One, blessed be He. If a person could, he would implant intellect in himself, but they have not yet found how to implant a brain.
And to receive intellect and a mind, says our holy Rebbe, it is only through studying the Shas in depth, studying the Torah - and when one studies Torah, he merits to nullify the heresy in his heart, and to feel Hashem. To grace, to importance, and his prayers and requests are accepted.
