Prayer Before Reciting Selichot and Erev Rosh Hashanah

TO MERIT, THROUGH THE RECITATION OF SELICHOT DURING THE DAYS OF THE CREATION OF THE WORLD, TO DRAW DOWN SUPERIOR COMPASSION AND ABUNDANCE FOR THE NEW YEAR AND FOR ALL GENERATIONS, AND FOR THE FORGIVENESS OF SINS, INCLUDING THE SIN OF THE GOLDEN CALF.

"BEFORE RECITING SELICHOT"

Master of the Universe, Who can do all things, grant me the merit, through the recitation of Selichot with a broken heart and with abundant tears, to draw down abundance for the new year from the beard of the Ancient Holy One, for "the world is built with loving-kindness."

And through the recitation of Selichot, I will merit to increase loving-kindness, for on the 25th of Elul the world was created, and on the second day Hashem said, "Let there be a firmament in the midst of the waters, and let it divide between water and water."

FOR THROUGH THE RECITATION OF SELICHOT DURING THE FIRST SIX DAYS OF THE CREATION OF THE WORLD, ONE MERITS THAT DIVIDER WITHIN ADAM KADMON (PRIMORDIAL MAN), WHICH SEPARATES BETWEEN THE NAME MAH AND THE NAME BAN.

FOR THROUGH THE RECITATION OF SELICHOT, ONE MERITS TO DRAW FROM THE SUPERIOR LOVING-KINDNESS OF THE CONCEALED ANCIENT ONE WITHIN THE BODY OF ADAM KADMON, INTO THE BODY OF THE ANCIENT ONE, WHICH IS THE CONCEALED LIGHT OF THE SEVEN DAYS, CONCEALED WITHIN THE SEVEN ATTRIBUTES OF THE ANCIENT HOLY ONE. THIS IS THE SECRET OF "ON THIS DAY ALL THE FOUNTAINS OF THE GREAT DEEP WERE BROKEN UP," AS THE HOLY ZOHAR SAYS IN PARASHAT NOAH, "AND THEN THE GATES OF WISDOM WILL BE OPENED," AND THEREIN LIES THE SECRET OF THE SUPERIOR WATERS WITHIN THE ANCIENT HOLY ONE, WHICH ARE DRAWN FROM THE CONCEALED BRAIN OF THE ANCIENT HOLY ONE.

For through the recitation of Selichot, one merits the secret of "You have made them all with wisdom," and "From where shall wisdom be found?" which is the secret of "abundant in loving-kindness," the gematria of Mordechai.

For through the recitation of Selichot, the secret of the goblet of Joseph is revealed, the gematria of Mordechai and Esther, Mattityahu and his sons.

For through the recitation of Selichot, one draws down the illumination of Chanukah and Purim, WHICH IS AN ILLUMINATION DRAWN FROM THE UNKNOWABLE HEAD, WHICH IS ABOVE THE DAYS AND THE ATTRIBUTES, AND ABOVE ALL ACCUSATIONS.

FOR THROUGH THE RECITATION OF SELICHOT WITH ABUNDANT TEARS AND A BROKEN HEART, ABUNDANCE IS DRAWN FROM THE HEAD OF ADAM KADMON, THROUGH THE PRIMORDIAL SEA AND THE FINAL SEA, WHERE ALL THE ABUNDANCE FOR ALL GENERATIONS RESIDES, UNTIL AFTER THE RESURRECTION OF THE DEAD.

FOR THROUGH THE RECITATION OF SELICHOT, IT IS POSSIBLE TO HEAL ALL THE SICK AND TO REVIVE ALL THE DEAD.

AND THEN "HASHEM APPEARED TO HIM BY THE TEREBINTHS OF MAMRE," THE SECRET OF THE SUPERIOR WATERS, WHICH MOSES GAVE TO EVERYONE TO DRINK IN THE WATERS OF THE SOTAH, IN THE WATERS DESCENDING FROM THE MOUNTAIN, IN THE SECRET OF THE LOWER WATERS.

FOR THROUGH KISSING THE GOLDEN CALF, THEY CAUSED THEIR LIPS TO SWELL, UNTIL ALL THOSE WHO KISSED THE CALF DIED A DEATH OF SUFFOCATION AND A DEATH OF STARVATION, AND ONLY THROUGH THE RECITATION OF SELICHOT OF THE DAYS OF THE CREATION OF THE WORLD, AND EREV ROSH HASHANAH, IS IT POSSIBLE TO SWEETEN ALL THE JUDGMENTS FROM THE DAYS OF OLD, INCLUDING THE SIN OF THE GOLDEN CALF.
