PRAYER OF PREPARATION FOR PURIM
FOR THE 32 DAYS FROM TU B'SHVAT UNTIL THE CONCLUSION OF THE TRIPARTITE PURIM
Master of the Universe, Almighty, from Whom no scheme is hidden, open for me the thirty-two days between the fifteenth of Shevat and the sixteenth of Adar—like this year, when there is a Tripartite Purim: Friday, Shabbat, Sunday, and the conclusion of Sunday. In these thirty-two days, open for us the gates of eternity, the gates of prayer, the gates of charity, the gates of faith, the gates of love for Hashem, the gates of blessing, the gates of salvation, the gates of greatness, the gates of Geulah (Redemption), the gates of joy, the gates of a spacious dwelling without constraints, the gates of splendor, the gates of relief, the gates of confession, the gates of alacrity, the gates of radiance, the gates of the splendor of Torah, the gates of the splendor of wisdom, the gates of the splendor of understanding, the gates of the splendor of knowledge, the gates of kindness, the gates of compassion, the gates of purity of character, the gates of integrity, the gates of beauty, the gates of honor, the gates of prayer, the gates of learning, the gates of Likutey Moharan, the gates of the preserved wine, the gates of the Leviathan, the gates of the wild oxen, the gates of the horns of the wild oxen, "You have answered me from the horns of the wild oxen," the gates of Shabbat, the gates of Passover, the gates of Purim, the gates of Rosh Hashanah, the gates of Yom Kippur, the gates of dance, the gates of leaping, as it is said, 'There were no better days for Israel than the fifteenth of Av and Yom Kippur, on which the daughters of Israel would go out in dances in borrowed white garments, and they would say and sing: Young man, do not set your eyes on beauty, but on family and the fear of Hashem.' The gates of fear, the gates of trembling, the gates of shuddering, the gates of dread, the gates of quaking, the gates of awe. Please Hashem, "May He not let your foot slip; may your Guardian not slumber. Behold, the Guardian of Israel neither slumbers nor sleeps. Hashem will guard you from all evil; He will guard your soul. Hashem will guard your going out and your coming in from now and forever." Please Hashem, in the merit of the holy and awesome festival of Purim that is coming upon us for good, save me from the coals of broom-wood that burn for 12 months. And may we merit to be always in a state of quaking, trembling, dread, shuddering, awe, and fear, and in immense joy, and may I merit to fight the wars of Hashem day and night, like the tribe of Zebulun that fought with a whole heart [I Chronicles 12:33]. Please Hashem, "My help is from Hashem, Maker of heaven and earth. May He not let your foot slip; may your Guardian not slumber. What will He give you and what will He add to you, O deceitful tongue?" And grant me the merit to enter on the day of Purim into the "courtyard of the garden of the palace," the secret of the Holy of Holies. Please Hashem, "Who girds me with strength for the battle," please Hashem, open for us the gates of the water libation and the gates of the wine libation, the gates of prophecy, the gates of vision. Please Hashem, 'I and He, save now,' the gates of the Luminous Specular, and may I merit to do all my deeds "for Hashem alone," as it is said in the Torah portion of Mishpatim, "He who sacrifices to the gods shall be destroyed, except for Hashem alone." Please Hashem, Almighty, in the merit of the holy and awesome Purim, save me from Your wrath from the great and awesome Day of Judgment. And may I merit, in the merit of the holy and awesome Purim that is coming upon us, to be included among the thirty-six tzaddikim of the generation, and only to do everything "for Hashem alone." Please Hashem, 'Act and do not delay,' and open for us, in the merit of the holy and awesome Purim, the Shitin (the deep channels of the Temple). Please Hashem, in the merit of the four Shitin, save us from the servitude of the four kingdoms under which it was decreed that we would be enslaved. Please Hashem, 'Who has kept us alive, and sustained us, and brought us to this time.' Please Hashem, grant me the merit, in the merit of the holy and awesome Purim, grant us to be 'like a spring that gains strength and like a river that does not cease.' Please Hashem, in the merit of the holy and awesome Purim that is coming upon us, grant us that the Temple be built speedily in our days, the Temple of fire. And may we merit to be like Rabbi Zeira, who every thirty days would enter into the fire. And may we always merit to praise and thank You, as we sing every Rosh Chodesh, "When Israel went out of Egypt, the house of Jacob from a people of strange language, Judah became His sanctuary, Israel His dominion. The sea saw and fled; the Jordan turned backward. The mountains skipped like rams, the hills like lambs. What ails you, O sea, that you flee? O Jordan, that you turn backward? You mountains, that you skip like rams; you hills, like lambs? Tremble, O earth, at the presence of the Lord, at the presence of the God of Jacob, who turns the rock into a pool of water, the flint into a fountain of water." And all my days I will conduct myself in immense holiness, and the verse will be fulfilled in us, "And you shall draw water with joy from the wells of salvation." Please Hashem, in the merit of the holy and awesome Purim, grant me the secret of the Etrog—the acronym for "Let not the foot of pride come to me." And may we merit to reveal the Shitin on this day of Purim, upon which the Temple was built, and may we merit to build the Temple of fire, and may we merit every year to enter the Holy of Holies on Yom Kippur like the High Priest, and may You renew the service with the firstborns. And may we merit, like Yael, to be reincarnated in the High Priest who entered the Holy of Holies on Yom Kippur, and may we merit like Yael who was reincarnated in Eli the High Priest. Please Hashem, grant us during all three days of Purim that are coming upon us this year for good, to dance for three days and three nights without any interruption at all, and may we always go out in dance, and through this may we always merit the forgiveness of sins, and to be freed from all the illnesses in the world, and to rejoice always in the joy of the Beit HaShoeivah for 7 days and 7 nights, and to dance with all kinds of torches and lights, and may we always spend our days in the Temple, in the Holy of Holies, in the Temple of fire. And may we merit, in the merit of Purim, to be like Yonatan ben Uziel who was always surrounded by flames of fire, and like Deborah the Prophetess, who at the time she would prophesy, her entire tent would be ablaze with fire, and therefore she was called "a woman of torches," and may we always blow shofars and trumpets over the house of Hashem, and may we sing there all the songs, the songs of holiness and prayer and thanksgiving to Hashem. And may You fulfill in us, in the merit of the holy and awesome Purim that is coming upon us, the verse "He asked life of You, You gave it to him," and may You fulfill our prayers and our supplications in the merit of the holy and awesome day of Purim that is coming upon us for good. Please Hashem, in the merit of the holy and awesome Purim, grant us to see the Temple of fire, as it is said, 'And may our eyes behold Your return to Zion in mercy,' and may we merit thirteen canopies in the merit of the holy and awesome day of Purim that is called upon us, just as You made for the first man a canopy of ruby, topaz, and emerald, a sukkah of turquoise, sapphire, and diamond, a sukkah of jacinth, agate, and amethyst, a sukkah of beryl, onyx, and jasper, a sukkah of silver and gold, precious stones and pearls. And may we merit, in the merit of the holy and awesome day of Purim that is called upon us, seven days and seven nights of non-stop dancing like in the joy of the Beit HaShoeivah. Please Hashem, grant us a jar of oil of one hundred and twenty log, as in the time when the Temple existed, and may we merit grapes the size of ships. Please Hashem, in the merit of the holy and awesome day of Purim that is coming upon us, grant us in these thirty-two days, which correspond to the thirty-two paths of wisdom, to stop the abyss so that it will never be able to flood the world, and may it not happen to us as it happened in the days of David that 'the abyss froze'—that the abyss rose and flooded Jerusalem, until David wrote the Explicit Name on a shard. And may we merit, in the merit of the holy and awesome festival of Purim, to the "seven shepherds and eight princes of men," to the seven shepherds with David in the middle, Adam, Seth, and Methuselah to his right, and Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob to his left. And in the merit of the holy and awesome festival of Purim, may we merit to see face to face all the twelve prophets, with Isaiah, Jeremiah, Ezekiel. And in the merit of the songs and dances, and in the merit of the twelve months that You have bequeathed to us every year, may we merit to see Mashiach ben David and the complete Geulah (Redemption), as it is written, 'May it rise, and come, and reach, and be seen, and be heard, and be accepted, and be remembered, our remembrance and our account, and the remembrance of Mashiach ben David Your servant, and the remembrance of Jerusalem Your holy city.' And may we merit every single day to read all the offerings. And may we merit, in the merit of the holy and awesome festival of Purim that is coming upon us, the verse "For a day in Your courts is better than a thousand; I would rather stand at the threshold of the house of my God than dwell in the tents of wickedness. For Hashem God is a sun and a shield; Hashem will give grace and glory; He will not withhold any good from those who walk in integrity. I will dwell in Your tent forever; I will take refuge in the shelter of Your wings, Selah. For You, O God, have heard my vows; You have given the heritage of those who fear Your name. You will add days to the king's days; his years will be like generation after generation. He will sit forever before God; appoint loving-kindness and truth to preserve him. So I will sing praise to Your name forever, that I may pay my vows day by day. Thus I have seen You in the sanctuary, to behold Your power and Your glory. Because Your loving-kindness is better than life, my lips shall praise You. So I will bless You in my life; in Your name I will lift up my hands. My soul shall be satisfied as with marrow and fatness, and my mouth shall praise You with joyful lips. When I remember You on my bed, I meditate on You in the night watches. For You have been my help, and in the shadow of Your wings I will sing for joy. My soul clings to You; Your right hand upholds me. But those who seek my life to destroy it shall go into the depths of the earth. They shall be delivered to the power of the sword; they shall be a portion for jackals. But the king shall rejoice in God; everyone who swears by Him shall glory, for the mouth of those who speak lies shall be stopped. O God, my salvation and my glory; the rock of my strength, my refuge is in God. Trust in Him at all times, O people; pour out your heart before Him; God is a refuge for us, Selah. God has spoken once; twice I have heard this: that power belongs to God. O God, You are my God; I will seek You early; my soul thirsts for You, my flesh longs for You in a dry and thirsty land where there is no water. Thus I have seen You in the sanctuary, to behold Your power and Your glory. Because Your loving-kindness is better than life, my lips shall praise You. So I will bless You in my life; in Your name I will lift up my hands. I will cry to God Most High, to God who performs all things for me. He shall send from heaven and save me; He reproaches the one who would swallow me up, Selah. God shall send forth His loving-kindness and His truth. Be exalted, O God, above the heavens; let Your glory be above all the earth. Awake, my glory! Awake, harp and lyre! I will awaken the dawn. I will praise You among the peoples, O Lord; I will sing to You among the nations. For Your loving-kindness is great unto the heavens, and Your truth unto the clouds. Be exalted, O God, above the heavens; let Your glory be above all the earth. O God, break their teeth in their mouth; tear out the fangs of the young lions, O Hashem. Let them melt away as water; when he shoots his arrows, let them be as if cut in pieces. This shall be written for the generation to come, and a people yet to be created shall praise Yah. For He has looked down from the height of His sanctuary; from heaven Hashem viewed the earth, to hear the groaning of the prisoner, to release those appointed to death, to declare the name of Hashem in Zion and His praise in Jerusalem, when the peoples are gathered together, and the kingdoms, to serve Hashem. O Hashem, hear my prayer, and let my cry come to You. Do not hide Your face from me in the day of my trouble; incline Your ear to me; in the day that I call, answer me speedily. I am like a pelican of the wilderness; I have become like an owl of the ruins. I watch, and am as a sparrow alone upon the housetop. My enemies reproach me all the day; those who deride me swear by me. He who works deceit shall not dwell within my house; he who tells lies shall not stand before my eyes. Every morning I will destroy all the wicked of the land, to cut off all the evildoers from the city of Hashem. O God of vengeance, Hashem, O God of vengeance, shine forth! Rise up, O Judge of the earth; render punishment to the proud. Hashem, how long shall the wicked, how long shall the wicked triumph? They utter, they speak hard things; all the workers of iniquity boast themselves. They break in pieces Your people, O Hashem, and afflict Your heritage. They slay the widow and the stranger, and murder the fatherless. Give ear, O Shepherd of Israel, You who lead Joseph like a flock; You who dwell between the cherubim, shine forth! Before Ephraim, Benjamin, and Manasseh, stir up Your strength and come for our salvation. O God, restore us and cause Your face to shine, and we shall be saved. For behold, Your enemies make a tumult; and those who hate You have lifted up their head. They have taken crafty counsel against Your people, and consulted against Your sheltered ones. They have said, Come, and let us cut them off from being a nation, that the name of Israel may be remembered no more. For they have consulted together with one heart; they form a confederacy against You: the tents of Edom and the Ishmaelites; Moab and the Hagrites; Gebal, and Ammon, and Amalek; Philistia with the inhabitants of Tyre; Assyria also has joined with them; they have helped the children of Lot, Selah. Do to them as to Midian, as to Sisera, as to Jabin at the Brook Kishon, who perished at En Dor, who became as dung for the earth. Make their nobles like Oreb and like Zeeb, and like Zebah and like Zalmunna, all their princes, who said, Let us take for ourselves the pastures of God for a possession. O my God, make them like the whirling dust, like the chaff before the wind! As the fire burns the forest, and as the flame sets the mountains on fire, so pursue them with Your tempest, and frighten them with Your storm. Fill their faces with shame, that they may seek Your name, O Hashem. Let them be confounded and dismayed forever; yes, let them be put to shame and perish. O God of Hosts, restore us and cause Your face to shine, and we shall be saved. You have brought a vine out of Egypt; You have cast out the nations, and planted it. You prepared room for it, and caused it to take deep root, and it filled the land. The hills were covered with its shadow, and its branches were like the mighty cedars. It sent out its boughs to the sea, and its branches to the River. Why have You broken down its hedges, so that all who pass by the way pluck its fruit? The boar out of the woods uproots it, and the wild beast of the field devours it. Return, we beseech You, O God of Hosts; look down from heaven and see, and visit this vine, and the vineyard which Your right hand has planted, and the branch that You made strong for Yourself. It is burned with fire, it is cut down; they perish at the rebuke of Your countenance. Let Your hand be upon the man of Your right hand, upon the son of man whom You made strong for Yourself. And we will not turn back from You; revive us, and we will call upon Your name. And they shall know that You, whose name is Hashem, are alone the Most High over all the earth.'"
