Prayer for the New Moon of the Month of Tammuz from Rabbi Eliezer Berland shlit"a

Master of the Universe, Almighty, in the merit of the new moon of the month of Tammuz 5780, which will be on the first night (this evening, Motza'ei Shabbat) at 1:05 and 14 parts

Reveal to us the Ancient of Ancients, the Hidden of the Hidden, the Concealed of All. May the verse in the Megillah be fulfilled in us: "The month which was turned for them from sorrow to joy and from mourning to a good day, to make them days of feasting and joy" (Esther 9:22). And the verses in Zechariah: "And the word of Hashem of hosts came to me, saying, Speak to all the people of the land and to the priests, saying, When you fasted and mourned in the fifth and seventh months, these seventy years, did you fast for me, even for me? Thus says Hashem to Yehoshua the son of Yehotzadak the high priest, and you shall say to him, saying, Thus says Hashem of hosts, saying, Behold the man whose name is the Branch, and he shall grow up out of his place, and he shall build the temple of Hashem." For the month of Tammuz, in which the first tablets were given, the remnants of wisdom from above, from Netzach and Hod of Atik, and therefore it is written tablets without a Vav, because Netzach and Hod of Atik are connected, and it is written in Shekalim 16: '40 words on this tablet and 40 words on that tablet', in the secret of 'filled with Tarshish', and all the decrees and the Rabbinic laws and the halacha given to Moshe at Sinai that the sages decreed and will decree, everything was written on the first tablets, including Likutey Moharan, Likutey Halachot, Stories of the Tzaddikim, and all other books. "Thus says Hashem of hosts, there shall yet old men and old women sit in the streets of Jerusalem, and every man with his staff in his hand - [Pesachim 68] the secret of the resurrection of the dead - from the multitude of days; and the streets of the city shall be filled with boys and girls playing in its streets; thus says Hashem of hosts, if it be marvelous in the eyes of the remnant of this people in those days, should it also be marvelous in my eyes?" For the first tablets that are revealed anew every year in the month of Tammuz "Remember the Torah of Moshe", and everything depends: "Thus says Hashem of hosts, saying, Execute true judgment, and show mercy and compassion every man to his brother, and oppress not the widow, nor the fatherless, the stranger, nor the poor, and let none of you imagine evil against his brother in your heart", for all the destruction was because of 'Kamtza and Bar Kamtza', as it is said: Mishpatim [Exodus 22:21-23] "You shall not afflict any widow, or fatherless child. If you afflict them in any way, and they cry at all unto me, I will surely hear their cry; and my wrath shall wax hot, and I will kill you with the sword; and your wives shall be widows, and your children fatherless." For in the month of Tammuz, the secret of the tablets reveals the supreme wisdom of the supreme, in the secret of King Hadar, which is the secret of eternal redemption, and therefore the word "and he died" is not written.

For on the 15th of Tammuz, the plague of blood began [according to the calculation of 30 days between plague and plague], and the hand of Hashem began to be revealed in D'tzach Adash B'achav. For The_Tower_of_David6on the 17th of Tammuz, the Tamid offering ceased, and the incense offering ceased, and therefore "God above, master below, found the world and wrote the Torah, for which I am justified to serve him from a young age, to refine and raise incense, to the king whose crown is above all his sayings and established the thoughts of the precious matter [introduction of Ramban - end of Bechorot]. For in the month of Tammuz, all evil thoughts are rectified, upon which the entire building of the Holy Temple depends [Pesachim 87]. As it is said: "Our sons are as plants grown up in their youth; our daughters are as cornerstones, polished after the similitude of a palace" [Psalms 144].

And then: "Moab is my washpot; over Edom will I cast out my shoe; over Philistia will I triumph" for 'a person should always sell all that he has and buy shoes for his feet', for tefillin are the secret of shoes [Shabbat 62]. For the heels of Leah are transformed into the crown of Rachel, for the crown of Rachel is the heels of Leah, and from the sole of Leah becomes the crown of Rachel, in the secret of 'what humility made a heel for the sole, fear made a crown for the head'. For on the 15th of Tammuz, the hand of Hashem began to be revealed. And with great awe, this is the revelation of the Shechinah, and with wonders, this is the blood as it is said "And I will show wonders in the heavens and in the earth, blood" [Haggadah], and with signs, this is the staff "And this staff you shall take in your hand, with which you shall do the signs" "Or has God tried to go and take him a nation from the midst of another nation, by trials, by signs, and by wonders, and by war, and by a mighty hand, and by an outstretched arm, and by great terrors, according to all that Hashem your God did for you in Egypt before your eyes" [Deuteronomy 4:36] [Haggadah]. For the greatest revelations began in the month of Tammuz with the plague of blood, and from then the work in Egypt ceased, for everything follows the beginning, and then Egypt and the whole world saw the hand of Hashem intervening in the governance of the world, and disrupting all the systems of nature, for the ten plagues upon which it is said 'this is the revelation of the Shechinah', included in them are the ten commandments and all the mitzvot until the end of all generations. For even though their impurity ceased from the 4th of Sivan until the 16th of Tammuz, it had not completely ceased, and they needed further clarification, in the secret of 'second tablets', which are all the decrees and enactments that will be until the end of all generations, until each one will merit anew to the true resurrection of the dead that they merited from the 4th of Sivan until the 16th of Tammuz. And therefore everyone followed Rabbi Akiva to Bnei Brak even though he was the smallest of them all, for he expounded on every thorn and thorn hills upon hills of halachot, for he merited the thorn of the Yud and the thorn of the letter D of Echad, and therefore he merited to expound in Egypt fifty and on the sea 250, a total of 300, and with Rabbi Eliezer 240 = 540, and another sixty of Rabbi Yosi the Galilean 600, and another D'tzach Adash B'achav and ten plagues 613, corresponding to the 613 mitzvot, for upon every mitzvah the sitra achra receives a decisive blow. And this begins from the new moon of the month of Tammuz in which the ten plagues began, for in the month of Tammuz, they begin to rectify the seven lamps, for just as the eternal lamp was extinguished on the 17th of Tammuz, so they begin anew to improve the seven lamps in the month of Tammuz, until the flame rises on its own (Torah 21). For until a person rectifies the seven lamps, he is like a person drawing water with a perforated vessel, who will never have water to quench his thirst. And this is the secret "And the children of Israel sighed by reason of the bondage, and they cried, and their cry came up unto God", for the children of Israel cried out to Hashem, for they rise at midnight and study Torah and do all hard work in the house and in the field and see no results, Hashem answered them, still, lashon hara is among you and you do not have proper guarding of the eyes, if so you are like those who draw with a perforated vessel all your lives and have no water to drink. And as the 'Noam Elimelech' says in Parshat Va'era: "And they did not listen to Moshe because of shortness of spirit and hard labor", that they claimed to Moshe that they do hard work in the service of Hashem and why are they not saved, Moshe said to them indeed the matter is known because still lashon hara is among you and also you do not have proper guarding of the eyes, in the secret "And Moshe heard the people weeping throughout their families", for when a person has guarding of the eyes he can marry, and even with a deformity, he will not feel anything all his life [Shabbat 53]. For the month of Tammuz, which is the month of redemption and in the future will be turned into joy and gladness, in which the spies went through all of Eretz Yisrael [from the 29th of Sivan until the 8th of Av], and Caleb the son of Jephunneh went to prostrate on the graves of the forefathers, and therefore from him will come Mashiach ben David, and from Yehoshua ben Nun Mashiach ben Yosef, for they were the only ones who did not sin [Imrei Pinchas 386]. And therefore in the new moon of Tammuz, it is especially the true segulah to be in the Cave of Machpelah, for there the spark of Mashiach ben David is revealed with Caleb the son of Jephunneh.

For all the ten plagues that began on the 15th of Tammuz are a preparation for the plague of the firstborn and the mitzvah of the firstborn, as the Chinuch says in Parshat 'Bechorot' Bo: from the roots of the mitzvah that Hashem desired to merit us to perform the mitzvah with the first of its fruit, so that we know that everything is His, and he has nothing in the world except what Hashem gives him in His kindness, and he will understand this when he sees that after a person has toiled so much and worked so hard in his world [plowed, sowed, planted], and the time has come when he has made fruit and it is dear to him the first of its fruit as the apple of his eye, immediately he gives it to the Holy One, blessed be He, and his possession is emptied from it and he brings it into the possession of his Creator [in the new Daf 99]. For in the month of Tammuz, Hashem began to judge the prince of Egypt with the plague of blood, for every nation has a prince above that protects it, until the time of its destruction comes and then Hashem removes its prince in the river of fire, consuming fire, for His servants are a flaming fire and they are the princes of the nations of the world, and when the time of their destruction comes, Hashem removes them in the fire of the river of fire, consuming fire.

And therefore the month of Tammuz begins in Parshat Chukat with the burning of the red heifer, which hints at the burning of the prince of the nations in consuming fire, for the nations are called perfect [Yalkut Shimoni], but they are red with blood and sins that have no end, and therefore it was necessary to pass the lamb, which is the idol of Egypt, in fire on its insides and on its legs and roast it whole, and it is forbidden to leave any of it until morning, which hinted at the burning of the prince of Egypt and the princes of the nations of the world that begins in the new moon of Tammuz in the Cave of Machpelah, and no memory of it shall remain until the 15th of Nissan. And when Hashem kills all the princes of the nations, He will begin with the plague of blood, as it is written in Tikkun 21 [in the small ones 19 Tevet 217]: 'And after He takes vengeance on them, He will not sit on the throne, and at that time when He takes vengeance on the children of Esau, He will come to appease the doe, and she will cry and weep, Rachel weeping for her children, refusing to be comforted, until the Holy One, blessed be He, says to her that He stands to remove them from the world, and He will kill them until the sea is stained with their blood, and they will sustain all the beasts outside for twelve years, and the birds of the sky for seven years'.

And this is the secret of the month of Tammuz that begins with the new moon, that then: and He will kill the serpent, "and the sons of Rechaviah [who are the sons of Moshe from Eliezer] went up above the head", and they will make battles in the sea and on the land, until they kill the serpent. And this is the secret "And Hashem will bring you back to Egypt in ships" that all the nations of the world will come in ships against the people of Israel, but they will all be broken and fall into the sea 'and they will go down into the depths like a stone' 'and they will sink like lead in the mighty waters', and then "there ships will go" "riders of white donkeys and those who pass by the way will speak" they are the ships of the Torah, and then "Leviathan you created to play with it" the neshamah of the tzaddik, the neshamah of Moshe that Hashem will delight in, in the secret "and the suckling child shall play on the hole of the asp, and the weaned child shall put his hand on the adder's den", and He will kill the serpent and redeem the doe, and then it will be "consider her bulwarks, pass through her palaces", and the month of Tammuz will be turned from sorrow and sighing to joy and gladness, and then the verse will be fulfilled: "They all wait for you to give them their food in due season" [Tikkunei Zohar 43].
