Prayer - Prayer before the Prayer
Canceling the Draft Decree on Yeshiva Students
Master of the Universe, Almighty, cancel the draft decree from upon Your people, the House of Israel, and from all the Yeshiva students. May they merit to learn constantly, day and night, without a single second of interruption, and to see the Name of Hashem before their eyes, day and night, without a single second of interruption. May I merit to see the combination of the Name Havayah—'Yud, Hei, Vav, Hei'—before my eyes every moment and second. May I not stumble in any evil thought, nor in any nocturnal emission—neither accidentally nor intentionally, neither by force nor willingly. May I know Tractate Yevamos by heart, word for word, letter for letter, and may I only learn Gemara twenty-four hours a day without a moment or second of interruption. May I never take my eyes off the letters of the holy and awesome books, which are the Torah of Hashem transmitted mouth to mouth, and may I merit to receive the Torah of Hashem mouth to mouth. May I not have even a trace of pride. May I nullify myself to everyone, to each and every Jew, with the ultimate nullification, and may there not be found in me or in my offspring any opposition to any Jew in the world. May I nullify myself completely to every Jew who puts on Tefillin and keeps Kosher and Shabbos. May I always wait six hours after eating meat, whether poultry or beef—six full hours before drinking milk. May I be strong and courageous, like Shimshon (696) the hero, whose heroism was drawn from Atik Yomin (the Ancient of Days - 696). May I always be filled with awe, trembling, fear, and reverence, and through this, may I merit to always pray with deep intention, word by word, and through this, the army will have no dominion over me. May I be completely nullified from physical existence, and merit to be seeing but unseen. May I be completely nullified from the reality of the body, fulfilling what is said: 'He has no bodily form, nor is He a body.' May I merit to be like Moshe Rabbeinu who 'gazes upon the image of Hashem,' and whose neck turned to marble, like the neck of Yaakov when Esav came to bite him and tear out all his vital organs. And just as the necks of Yaakov and Moshe turned to marble, and their enemies had no power over them, so too, may You grant me the merit—in the merit of praying with intention and learning Torah day and night—that no enemy will have any power over me, especially not the army, nor their affiliates, nor the affiliates of their affiliates. And in the merit of being freed from the army in the blink of an eye, I will learn Torah day and night (177) without a moment or second of interruption. And may I merit to enter Gan Eden (177) with my physical body, like Serach the daughter of Asher, Basya the daughter of Pharaoh, Eliezer the servant of Avraham, and Yehoshua ben Levi.
