Prayers to Recite on the Day of the Hilula of Rebbeinu HaKadosh, from the Gaon HaTzaddik Rabbi Eliezer Berland shlit"a

Presented here is a collection of prayers written by the Gaon HaTzaddik Rabbi Eliezer Berland shlit"a to be recited on the day of the yahrzeit:

To merit, on the Hilula of Rebbeinu HaKadosh, to accept new commitments upon myself: not to speak lashon hara; to use time only for Torah and prayer; to be included among the ten “idle ones” (the constant minyan); and to raise the Shechinah from the dust—guarding my time and my speech

Master of the world, Almighty, grant me the merit to fulfill, on the Hilula of Rebbeinu HaKadosh and Awesome One, “Do not be terrified of them… for Hashem your G-d is in your midst, a great and awesome G-d” 268 = 1799. And may we merit, on the Hilula of Rebbeinu HaKadosh and Awesome One, to see Eliyahu HaNavi, remembered for good 47 = 400, face to face every single second—he who was “pure eyes” 180 = 400. And now, on the Hilula of Rebbeinu HaKadosh and Awesome One, may we merit to raise the Shechinah from her dust. May we merit to accept upon ourselves new commitments: not to speak lashon hara; not to spread any slander about our friends; not to speak idle words; and not to utter any improper speech, Heaven forbid—through the power of Rebbeinu HaKadosh and Awesome One. May it be “impregnated” within us only to be included among the ten batlanim, as it is written: “Behold, I send you Eliyahu the prophet, remembered for good, before the coming of the great and awesome day of Hashem.” And through this may we merit to raise the Shechinah from her dust, as it is said: “A woman of valor—who can find? Her worth is far beyond pearls” 265 = 1799.

To merit zeal and holy wealth; to complete every year all of Rebbe Nachman’s books in wholeness; to believe all the words of the prophets; to see the fire that surrounds Rebbeinu; and to begin each day anew

The Hilula of Rebbe Nachman son of Simchah son of Feigeh—our great, mighty, and awesome Rebbe, from whom no secret is hidden and no mystery is withheld—grant me the merit to be included within you. Let the very essence of the soul of Rebbeinu HaKadosh and Awesome One be “impregnated” within me: Essence 200, Soul 790, Rebbeinu 268, the Holy One 415, and the Awesome One 268 = 1941. Through this, may I merit to be: “Bold as a leopard, light as an eagle, swift as a deer, and strong as a lion” = 1941, to do the will of our Father in Heaven. And may I merit to be the richest person in the world—even more than Rothschild—and to build endless yeshivos and kollelim, synagogues and mikvaos, as Eliyahu HaNavi, remembered for good 47 = 400, promised—he who was “pure eyes” 180 = 400—as it is written: “The jar of flour was not consumed, and the jug of oil did not diminish” 208 = 1941. For Rebbeinu HaKadosh and Awesome One is the Hidden Light 212 71 of the act of Creation 415 913 = 1941. For everything we do is for the sake of Kudsha Brich Hu and His Shechinah, and may we merit, in the merit of this holy Hilula, to finish all of Rebbeinu’s books every single year on the Hilula: Sipurei Ma’asiyos, Likkutei Moharan, Sichos HaRan, Chayei Moharan, Sefer HaMiddos, Likkutei Halachos, and all their commentaries and commentaries upon commentaries. And may the entire world merit, on the yahrzeit of Rebbeinu HaKadosh and Awesome One, to complete Rebbeinu’s books in the blink of an eye 305 130 = 435, and to begin each and every day anew. Through this may we merit to bring into the world the soul of Moshiach ben David 359 52 24 = 435. And on the Hilula of Rebbeinu HaKadosh and Awesome One—for I believe with complete Emunah that all the words of the prophets are truth = 1801—for I believe in the King who performs the act of Creation = 1801, and I will always be in constant holiness and elevation = 1801. Through this I will merit to see the supernal fire that surrounds Rebbeinu HaKadosh and Awesome One day and night = 177, as it is written: “And the appearance of the glory of Hashem was like a consuming fire on the top of the mountain.” And through this, in the merit of Rebbeinu HaKadosh and Awesome One, I will merit to enter—with my body—into Gan Eden 53 124 = 177. This is the secret of the sukkah: “Tzila d’Meheimanusa”—the shade of Emunah, the Emunah that shelters us, and Emunah in the Tzaddikim day and night = 177, like Sarah who was called Yiskah.

To merit to reveal the greatness of Rebbeinu HaKadosh and Awesome One; to complete the entire Shas every year; and to be included in the soul of Rebbeinu HaKadosh and Eliyahu HaNavi To complete Shas every year on the Hilula of Rebbeinu

Please, Hashem Almighty, from whom no plan is withheld, grant me the merit to reveal the greatness of Rebbeinu HaKadosh and Awesome One on the yahrzeit of Rebbeinu, the Holy of Holies. Grant me that on the yahrzeit of Rebbeinu, the Holy of Holies, the very essence of the soul of Rebbeinu Nachman son of Simchah be “impregnated” within me = 1811. Through this I will merit to be included in the sukkos of all the twelve tribes of Kah, and through this the soul of Eliyahu HaNavi, remembered for good = 400, will be revealed to me—he who was “pure eyes” = 400—who in his lifetime did not open his eyes from the day he was born until the day he ascended to Heaven in chariots of fire and horses of fire, as it is written: “Behold, I send you Eliyahu the prophet, remembered for good, before the coming of the great and awesome day of Hashem.” Through this we will be included in the twelve tribes of Kah, especially on the festival of Sukkos. For now, on the yahrzeit, this is the moment and the precise instant to reveal to us who Rebbeinu HaKadosh and Awesome One truly is. For now each person must accept upon himself the yoke of Torah: to complete the entire Shas every single year—altogether seven pages a day—and to complete Temurah, Kerisos, Me’ilah, Kinnim, Tamid, Middos, and all the other tractates: Chagigah, Moed Katan, Beitzah, Ta’anis, Megillah, and all the remaining tractates.

To merit to be included in the soul of Rebbeinu HaKadosh and Awesome One, who merited to reach a perfection after which there is no perfection—so as to be included in the soul of the Tzaddik in complete wholeness

Master of the world, Almighty, from whom no plan is withheld: grant me the merit to be included in the soul of Rebbeinu HaKadosh and Awesome One, who merited to be included in Adam Kadmon of Adam Kadmon; to leave all desires; and to be refined and pure like a newborn on the day of birth—clean of every desire and of every trace of desire, especially from the blemish of the covenant. He merited to reach every level of perfection, a perfection after which there is no perfection—something no Tzaddik has merited from the creation of the world until now. He merited to see the Seven Shepherds eye to eye, at every moment and every second, because he was clean of every desire and every trace of desire—on the level of Avraham, Yitzchak, and Yaakov, who were clean of this desire in the ultimate refinement and perfection. Please, Hashem, in the merit of Rebbeinu HaKadosh and Awesome One, who merited to the ultimate Teshuvah that no mortal in the world has ever merited—therefore may we all merit, on this holy and awesome yahrzeit, to be included in the ultimate perfection within that wondrous and awesome soul, who merited to be whole with every wholeness. Through this may we merit to bring into the world the soul of Rebbeinu HaKadosh and Awesome One—Rebbe Nachman son of Simchah—who merited more than any Tzaddik to be truly included in Hashem, in the ultimate perfection after which there is no perfection.

Rebbeinu HaKadosh, the Holy of Holies, who merited to grasp the secrets of the World of Garments, and who elevated his disciple Rabbi Nosson into the secret of the World of Prayer, into the World of Purity—and all their words are an explanation of the holy Zohar; and through their power they can draw the entire world close and sweeten everything at its root

Rebbeinu HaKadosh, the Holy of Holies, after whom there is no perfection—for Rebbeinu HaKadosh and Awesome One is the Holy of Holies—attained the secrets of the World of Garments, and from his awesome attainments he drew down to the holy Moharanat the secret of the World of Purity. And Moharanat merited that Rebbeinu HaKadosh and Awesome One brought him into the secret of the World of Prayer—the secret of the “teivah,” the House of Hashem, into which Noach entered. For the teivah is the secret of the World of Purity (Emek HaMelech, Gate 6). And Noach, who is called “tamim,” who merited this secret, was the secret of the Kesser of Purity, in the secret of “A righteous man, perfect was Noach”—for he was in the secret of the Kesser of Purity, which includes three Havayos. And since Noach merited to enter into the teivah—the secret of the letters of prayer, which are the House of Hashem [teivah]—therefore “Noach, Noach”: he merited to leave completely the World of Shattering and to ascend to the Kesser of Purity. This is what is said in Sefer HaBahir: that in Kesser there are 620 pillars of light, and each and every light is one name among the names of Kudsha Brich Hu. And Rebbeinu and Moharanat, who all their days gave over their souls for Kiddush Hashem, in the secret of the Ten Martyrs of the Kingdom, merited to leave the World of Shattering: Moharanat ascended to the Kesser of the World of Purity, and Rebbeinu HaKadosh and Awesome One to the Yesod within the World of Garments. Therefore Rebbeinu HaKadosh and Awesome One, the secret of the Holy of Holies, merited to the complete rectification of the covenant, a perfection after which there is no perfection. But that entire generation of Noach was lost and erased from upon the face of the earth, because they were in the secret of “worlds that were destroyed,” in the secret of “When the iron craftsman strikes, sparks fly to every side, and those sparks blaze and shine and are immediately extinguished” (Emek HaMelech, Gate 6, 53). And Noach, who tried to draw down to them the three Havayos in the secret of “for you, salt” 78—because the Tzaddik is a “covenant of salt forever”—the three Havayos were turned for them into a flood 78: “And the flood was water upon the earth.” For Yechezkel the prophet tried to draw down to the world the three Havayos; therefore he is called “Son of man, stand upon your feet,” for he was in the secret of Adam HaRishon, and he wanted to prevent destruction by revealing the secret of the three Havayos. But “the word of Hashem came, came to Yechezkel son of Buzi,” and he merited to grasp only two Havayos. Therefore Rebbeinu HaKadosh and Awesome One, the Holy of Holies—who said, “From me there will be no innovations until the coming of Moshiach our righteousness”—attained the secret of the World: the Yesod of the World of Garments, and he elevated Moharanat up to the Kesser of the World of Purity. And Rebbeinu HaKadosh and Awesome One, the Holy of Holies, and the holy Moharanat merited Eretz Yisrael, about which it is said: a land “not rained upon in the day of fury”—for it is the vessel that carries all the lights from the World of Garments into the World of Purity. Through this Rebbeinu HaKadosh and Awesome One, the Holy of Holies, merited to draw down entirely new teachings, in the secret of the two Tablets hidden in the Ark, in the secret of the hidden craftsman; and the holy Moharanat is in the secret of the two Keruvim from which the voice emerges—the voice through which the Ten Commandments and the entire Torah were given—in the secret of the wondrous craftsman. And both of them are in the secret of “A watcher and a holy one descended from Heaven,” whose initials spell Shimon. And “a watcher and a holy one descended from Heaven” is in the secret of Nachman—for all of Likkutei Moharan and Likkutei Halachos are explanations of the holy and awesome Zohar. For all the Tzaddikim in every generation until the Shabbos of the giving of the Torah tried to unify the Shechinah with Ze’ir Anpin face to face, until Moshe came on the Shabbos of the giving of the Torah and unified the Shechinah face to face. Through this he drew down to the people of Israel the 613 mitzvos with all their details and fine points. And no prophet or visionary—even the greatest Tzaddik, whoever he may be, even Eliyahu HaNavi—can change even a single crownlet of a letter. But from the Shabbos of the giving of the Torah onward, there is power for all the Tzaddikim in every generation to unify the Shechinah on Shabbos face to face with Ze’ir Anpin (Ateres Tzvi, Bereishis 188). And King David, peace be upon him, in two places exchanged Havayah for Elokim and Elokim for Havayah, in order to sweeten the Name Elokim through Havayah; and also within the Name Havayah, which is entirely mercy, there is the aspect of “awesome in deeds toward the children of man.”

To merit, on the day of the Hilula of Rebbeinu HaKadosh, that an illumination be drawn upon us from Atika Kadisha; that all desires be nullified; and that the Tzaddik sit upon his throne and his kingship—the revelation of the true Tzaddik

The Hilula of Rebbeinu HaKadosh and Awesome One—Rebbe Nachman son of Simchah son of Feigeh, Rebbeinu HaKadosh and Awesome One, from whom no secret is withheld—who merited to the secret of Nukva d’Pardaska, as brought in Torah 2, from where comes the secret of Techiyas HaMeisim, “life of lives,” which Rebbeinu merited in perfection. For the “nose” of Atika is called “chesed and truth,” as it says: “Righteousness and justice are the foundation of Your throne; chesed and truth go before Your face.” For “His throne—flames of fire; ten thousand thousands serve Him.” For the crown of Yesod is the secret of the Throne of Glory: “The place of Your dwelling You have made, Hashem; the Sanctuary, Hashem, Your hands established”—greater is the Mikdash, which is placed between two Names. For all the service of the Tzaddik is in rectifying the throne: to draw an illumination from the “nose” of Atik into Ze’ir Anpin. This is what Rabbi Shimon bar Yochai said to Rabbi Yehudah: “Rise in your standing,” for he merited the World of Rectification, which endures forever and for eternity of eternities. Just as the greatness of a king is revealed when he sits on his throne—the throne of judgment, of din and rachamim—so the “nose” of Atik is called the holy throne. Only one who is the true Tzaddik attains this, and merits the aspect of “eternity of eternities”: “Half of it toward the primordial sea”—Adam Kadmon—and “half of it toward the later sea”—Malchus. For in the sukkah it is possible to attain the Fiftieth Gate that was revealed to Moshe, as it is said: “You have made him מעט less than Elokim.” The Fiftieth Gate was not revealed to Moshe until the time of his passing: “And Moshe died on Mount Nevo.” The holy Shelah says: (Nevo) means “Nun is in him,” and it is also the letters of “neshamah” and “Nun Moshe”—that Moshe merited the rectification of the nuns, and through this Moshe Rabbeinu merited the Fiftieth Gate. Therefore about the true Tzaddik who merited Nukva d’Pardaska on the right side, it is said: “Hashem puts to death and gives life; He brings down to Sheol and raises up.” For he merited the providential gaze of the “nose” of Atika Kadisha, from where shines the illumination of Techiyas HaMeisim: “And then a man will cast away his idols of silver and his idols of gold.” For the moment the true Tzaddik draws illumination from Atika Kadisha, from that moment all desires are nullified—including the desire for money. Then the true Tzaddik merits: “Of the increase of his dominion and of peace there will be no end, upon the throne of David and upon his kingdom, to establish it and to support it with justice and with righteousness, from now and forever; the zeal of Hashem Tzevakos will do this.” Then the closed mem will be split open, and we will merit the revelation of Moshiach ben David, and the Beis HaMikdash of fire that will never again be destroyed. Then we will merit the sukkah of Livyasan, which alludes to the building of the Third Beis HaMikdash that will never be destroyed.
