Rabbi Schick Was the Pillar of Fire That Went Before the Camp of Israel • The Yahrtzeit of Mohara”sh, the Tzaddik of Yavniel

Today, the 17th of Shevat, is the day of the histalkus of Mohara”sh—Rabbi Eliezer Shlomo son of Rabbi Menachem Zev Shik, the holy Tzaddik of Yavniel, zy”a.

Between, yibadel lechaim tovim, the gaon and Tzaddik Rabbi Eliezer Berland shlit"a and Mohara”sh zt"l, there was a powerful bond that could not be severed. It was preserved for more than forty years. Many meetings took place between them—some public, and some that no one knew about, some of which remain unknown to this very day.

More than a decade ago, while The Rav Rabbi Eliezer Berland shlit"a was in Holland, The Rav shlit"a followed with great concern the worsening condition of Rabbi Shik. On Sunday, the 12th of Shevat—about six days before his histalkus—he held their final conversation. At its conclusion, Rabbi Shik asked to say the Vidui and Shema Yisrael together with The Rav shlit"a. After five days during which The Rav Rabbi Eliezer Berland shlit"a prayed without ceasing, “the mighty overcame the strongholds,” and the Ark of G-d was taken on the 17th of Shevat, 5775.

The Rav shlit"a issued a special announcement asking all the students and supporters of the holy community of Shuvu Banim to go out to the “Ashkavteih d’Rebbi.” Before the funeral, The Rav shlit"a delivered a eulogy the likes of which had not been heard—speaking of the greatness and exalted level of the holy Mohara”sh.

We bring you here, for the first time, the complete transcription of the eulogy delivered after the bier of the Tzaddik of Yavniel:
