Shiur for Rally Participants at Home of Rabbi Eliezer Berland Shlit”a

On Wednesday, the night of 22 Marcheshvan, Parashat Chayei-Sarah, a shiur took place in the home of Moreinu HaRav Eliezer Berland shlit"a for members of our community who merited to organize rallies and to pray for Moreinu HaRav shlit"a and for the success of the community.

Below is a summary of the topics that Moreinu HaRav shlit"a discussed in the shiur, which lasted for around fifty minutes:

Rabbi Avraham ben Rabbi Nachman said that captivity if worse than death, because it’s like ten deaths every moment.Therefore, the Ten Martyrs had to go through what they went through because of Yosef [that they sold him into captivity].In Parashat Vayigash is the revelation of the Tzaddik, and all the questions are resolved by “I am Yosef.”

In Lublin, they burned the entire massive library of the yeshiva, but Hitler said that if one little Jew remained, he didn’t accomplish anything.He would write everything over again.

The whole Gemara is stories: about the serpent with seven heads, and the lion of the house of Ilai that would roar and make the emperor fall from his throne.

“Yaakov left Be’er Sheva and went to Charan” – Yaakov went out as a Tzaddik and so Esav raised his voice in weeping.Immediately Eliphaz the wicked, the son of Esav, came, and Yaakov gave him all his possessions.Only his staff remained.

Learning is the aspect of Rachel, and afterwards, when we raise everything up with prayer, it is the aspect of Leah.The Land of Israel is the aspect of Rachel, and the spies were the aspect of Leah.

It is forbidden to abandon the Land of Israel even if there is no money.“Avraham sinned a great sin.”In the War of Independence, over seven months during the siege on Jerusalem, they ate grass.In the camps, there was no water.The Klausenberg Rebbe said to dig a pit and water came out, like Miriam’s well.The Germans saw this but didn’t do anything.

The Haftarah of Chanukah: “I saw and behold – there is a menorah of gold with its bowl on its top; its seven lamps are upon it, and there are seven ducts for each” – the entire secret is seven times seven, the secret of “Beshagam (Since) he is flesh.”

It is written that there were thirty disciples of Hillel who could move the sun, and Moshe moved the sun a number of times – during the Ten commandments, they flew [back] an hour and a fifth during each commandment.

From the age of fifteen, I only walk in the Carmel forest and scream, “Where is Hashem?!”

All the abundance is in Cheshvan, because Marcheshvan is the exact month in which the Third Temple is supposed to come down.Now, throughout the world, there are floods with water a height of 2 (meters/floors?) in the streets, because they said that the Jews are murderers.The month of Marcheshvan is the honeymoon, because the wedding was on Yom Kippur, the Sheva Brachot is Succot, and the yichud room is Shemini Atzeret, and after Shemini Atzeret, we go on the honeymoon.

The Zohar says in Toldot that in the year (5)408, the redemption needs to descend to the world.Rabbi Natan asks how this could have turned upside down [with the Khmelnytsky massacres that same year].It’s not enough that there was no redemption, but they also slaughtered Jews with terrible cruelty.Rather, Rabbi Natan explains that there was a great revelation of Hashem, and Hashem took the souls and built with them the Temple, only that we didn’t merit to see it.

When a person learns Torah, he rules over the whole world.Israel is “the bold among peoples.”The entire world is afraid of the Jews.

The month of Cheshvan is Akrav (Scorpio) – [the letters of] A”V KaR.The name of A”V.Rabbeinu says that now there is a stringed instrument of seven strings, and Mashiach will play on eight strings, and in the Future World, there will be A”V (72) strings.

Rashi says that it’s not said that it’s impossible to make tractate Ta’anit (?), because of troubles, rather because of the miracles that there are, that despite all the decrees and the nations wanting to annihilate us, the Jewish people continue to live.

Rabbi Natan says that we fast on BaHaB (Monday-Thursday-Monday) because of not rejoicing enough, because it can’t be that people transgress because of rejoicing.Rather, they didn’t dance enough.Therefore, one needs to dance an hour before prayer and an hour after prayer.
