The Cry of His Holiness the Ga'avad of Makava shlit"a: "And Now a Terrible Fire of Dispute Burns, Disparaging a Torah Scholar and God-Fearing Man Like the Holy Gaon and Tzaddik Rabbi Eliezer Berland shlit"a"

The Cry of the Gaon and Tzaddik, a Remnant of the Great Assembly, His Holiness the Ga'avad (Head of the Rabbinical Court) of Makava shlit'a

With the help of Hashem, the eve of Thursday, 15th of Kislev 5777, to the counting of the holy year of "And You said, I will surely do good with you" etc.

To our brothers, the Children of Israel, who seek Hashem and desire closeness to Hashem, may Hashem be upon them, and may You, Hashem, protect them and crown them with favor like a shield.

Who am I to come in writing regarding such a very terrible matter? However, we heard from the holy mouth of the Rebbe, the Holy Gaon, the leader of Israel, Rabbi Yoel Teitelbaum zt"l (the Satmar Rebbe) in his holy sermon on Hoshana Rabbah in the name of his father, the Holy Gaon, author of the Kedushas Yom Tov zy"a, with a parable: When a fire burns, one does not look at who will extinguish it; rather, each and every person must hurry to extinguish it before it becomes very difficult.

And now a terrible fire of machlokes (dispute) burns, where they disparage a Talmid Chacham (Torah scholar) and a God-fearing man, as we were privileged to be in his presence several times with high-ranking avreichim (young married Torah students) may they live, and we heard from the mouth of this Gaon and Tzaddik, our teacher Rabbi Eliezer Berland shlit"a—and may Hashem heal him and have great mercy upon him—many words of Torah and words of inspiration in the service of the Blessed Creator.

And so we were privileged to be close to this Gaon and holy man, Rabbi Yehuda Segal zt"l of Kiryat Shalom, Tel Aviv. And we heard from his mouth the praise and greatness of the aforementioned Holy Gaon shlit"a. And Rabbi Segal zt"l was very connected and attached to the teachings of the Holy Gaon, the Likutey Moharan zt"l, as seen in his holy books Machsheves Avodah and Reishis Avodah and more, which are built upon the foundations of the holy Rebbe Nachman zy"a. And if the aforementioned [Rabbi Berland] had pain then, at that time, from this matter, [as written in his letters in the book Al Zichro Tzaddik Peleh page 358].

Therefore, an urgent and heartfelt request is laid before all who have this matter in their heart: to sit before an important Beis Din (Rabbinical Court), and there representatives from both sides shall appear, and they shall decide according to the law of the Torah. And do not place a double-edged sword in the hand of everyone, for through this, the young sheep (the youth) are destroyed, who after the destructions were privileged to draw close to the holy Emunah (faith) and the holy Torah, and who can know the results and who can foresee them [and see the holy letter from my holy father and teacher zt"l in his book Kli Gola at the end in the pamphlet Zichron Avraham section 12, 13].

And Heaven forbid, we are not interfering in this matter, but only requesting that they establish an important Beis Din as mentioned above, and may the Creator of all worlds in His great mercy and kindness save our souls and all our brothers of the House of Israel, and make peace upon everyone.
